Would a GTX 485 fit in this machine if I wanted to upgrade it manually?

There's a chance that this card will be available in the future for this system, so I recommend waiting and getting a card from Dell.

Keep in mind the card is really expensive... and when it doesn't work because of a vBios issue it's wasted money.

This. Also, I'd recommend getting the 6970M instead when it comes out, since I'm sure it'll be cheaper and it should be within 10% of the 485M in most games.

Nice work! I see you got it from MXM-Upgrade.com. Is the system stable and such and are you able to run games smoothly? What are you temperatures?

They all (except ASUS) will probably use the same MXM board provided by AMD. It'll be the VBIOS that will be different.

yep i played like 1h crysis warhead ultra settings, very smooth, and temperature max was 74°c (HWmonitor)

the only thing strange is when i plug the HDMI out, in extended or clone mode no problem, but when i want to switch the screens, on my tv i see green artefacts, very strange, maybe a driver issue, no such thing with the integrated intel vga

Could be a driver issue. Which driver are you using?

Also, have you tried overclocking the card?

Very nice! I even read it in French, haha. I don't often get the chance to flex my tri-lingualism
EDIT: Did you get an engineering sample? AMD isn't officially shipping 6970M's for another week+

I went to MXM-Upgrade.com. It's strange how little (if any) the layout has changed from the 4870/5870/6970. Like you could use the heatsink from the 5870 on the 6970. Also, I thought the 6970M was supposed to beat CrossFire 5870s...?
