    Hi,

the wifi card works fine but doesnt see my 5GHz network. I have another laptop that does see that network and works fine in 5GHz.

Tried netstumbler and still doesnt see the network. Has anyone actually got this card working with a 5GHz network?

    Thanks

Are you using the Dell driver or the one from Intel's site? Also be sure to check your settings to be sure you are not in B/G mode.

Open your device manager, locate your Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN card
    Open the properties
    Selected the Advanced tab
    Verify the following settings:

Both of your channel widths should be set to Auto
Preferred Band: Either set it to 5.2GHz or pick No Preference
Wireless Mode: Set it 6 (a/b/g)

As mentioned, you may need a driver upgrade, consider the latest from Intel

I'm using 2 of them, one in a desktop and one in a laptop and both connect to a 5GHz router without any issue. I ended up with 2.4 because signal was stronger at the longer range, but that's a separate thing.

yup..with 5GHz only band on the recent gen apple AEB

download and install latest ver of the WIFI drivers from intel
    install (uninstall previous drivers)
once install and detects (both 5Ghz.amd 2.4Ghz..if you have named 'em different)
Rt Click on the (5Ghz) connection and click on properties >connection (tab)
    tick Enable intel conn
clcik configure and select 5.2 GHz band....click OK and exit here
    in Device manger 6300>properties>Advanced
make sure 2.4+5.2 Ghz are set as auto
    11n mode is enabled
    ADHOC QOS=enabled
    Fat channel
    Mixed mode= CTS to Self
    Prefered Band=5.2
-rest as default (wont make any difference)

Now all of these settings on my laptop paired to the AAEB (Simult. dual band) gives 360/ 390 Mbps when close, if on 1st floor then 180-240Mbps

Alrighty, what I'd do to test it is change the network (temporarily) to some basic stuff. If you have the SSID invisible, make it visible, set the channel width to Auto (not 20MHz only which is default), set it to a/n on the 5GHz band, turn off the 2.4GHz radio, and turn off Wireless security.

All of that can be found under the setup tab, Wireless settings subsection.

You can of course re-enable all of that later, but the point is to make your network as visible as possible to ensure it is being seen properly.

Also, did you connect all 3 of your antennas when you put the 6300 in your machine?

Are the drivers you mentioned that are installed the defaults that came with it or did you update them?

If you have the intel drivers you should be able to setup a my wifi pan, set it up with the 5ghz antenna and see if your other laptop can see it

@MASE...one more thing...(if) you use WPA2...use AES encryption...apparently Intel likes AES...

He set the network to visible and open so the encryption is irrelevant, if his card still cant see it then it's either the router or the card.

Which, unfortunately, at this point is probably pretty obvious that it's likely the card as he shouldnt have to jump through hoops to make it "see" a network, much less connect to it.
