So the M17x R3 has 4 slots. while I could just buy 32gb of RAM, will this actually work in an R3? Apparently it will in the R4.

    Thoughts? Info?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the repeat q!

i would have said no about a week ago, but when researching SSD's on the Crucial website, they scan your computer to give you info on what can be upgraded and it will say it supports 32GB of RAM. I have not tested this and dont know anyone who has. Not sure how reliable the scan software Crucial is, but I wouldnt be surprised if it could support it.

Anyone else got info on this as well?

From experience, Crucial wouldn't normally try to sell you something that wouldn't work. So this is encouraging information. Hopefully, we get some concrete answers.

Why in the world would you need 32 Gig ram???? I can justify 16 but 32 is crazy even for computational needs. But I think it will work in the R3 as my friend claims to have 32 gig in his but I have not actually seen this so I can not say with certainty that it will in fact work.

Massive amounts of virtual machines or ram disk. To be fair, I dabble in VM's and have an 8 GB ram cache for my data drive, and 16 feels like more than enough.

Thank you for confirming guys. I appreciate it.

And yes, VMing a lot. It's insane how much memory it consumes, I wish we could get better 3d performance however.
