My laptop has been dropping fps(to 8-10) for a VERY long time now, and ive fixed it during the summer with a 17" dedicated fan directed at my laptop whenever I used it. But this was becoming a nuisance, so I decided to run diagnostics and see if anything in my laptop was failing.

Diagnostics gave an error on my SSD, said that the test failed to run, so I thought I would buy a new hdd and just replace it and see what would happen. I restart my computer (no hardware changes yet), and it fails to boot. All I hear are 6 beeps. I googled it, and 6 beeps means video card failure.

How should I go about solving this issue? Are there any steps I can take to fix my laptop without having to replace the video card outright?

Laptop specs: i7-2630QM, Nvidia 460m + 3D, 120Hz Screen, Kingston 240 gb ssd (not from alienware), 8(or 16) GB ram (not from alienware), secondary 750 GB hdd

    Try reseatting the card.
You can also try a power drain.
