Just installed my 7970m into my M17xR3 and I'm having an issue when the battery is installed. Even though it reads all white lights pushing on the button, in Win7, it'll start of 100%, and plugged in, then show running on battery and a few minutes later showing the battery almost empty and just shuts off. If I take out battery and run off AC only, no issues. Any ideas? Never had this with my 580m installed runinning the A08 modded BIOS.

Try re-flashing the BIOS to set the battery to start charging properly :)

With the battery installed or not? I'm afraid if I have the battery in the system may shutdown in the middle of the flash.

Do it without the battery. You are correct in worrying about the system losing power and shutting off in the middle of flashing. Is the card working correctly? Did you install it correctly? It just sounds like there is a high resistance short somewhere in that part of the circuit that is draining the power out.

Card is seated properly. The batteries still read 100% according to the white lights on back even though it shuts down and is plugged in.

But, after it shuts down, what does the BIOS read the battery level at? 100%? 33%? If the BIOS is reading the battery level incorrectly, then the BIOS is at fault and a reflash may fix the issue. If the BIOS are reading the battery correctly, then something with your new 7970m is causing a power drain or HR short (could also be a BIOS setting if you have a modded BIOS installed for running your 7970m).

I have problems with my alien not charging at times. (needless to say this affects computer performance)
It does not run on battery like yours but if i have used battery it does not start charging but runs on power.
This after it tells me i have to change to correct adapter.

To clear this error i have to reflash BIOS and it starts again.

Very difficult to see this if battery already is 100% but computer still starts underperforming and i have to unplug and use some battery to verify that this has happened and start flashing again to make it run properly.

Going to try the BIOS reflash. I also just noticed that on initial bootup it says the battery can not be identified.

That narrows it down to either the motherboard or the battery. Does the BIOS still identify the charger correctly?

The Bios recognizes the charge just fine.

Then it might be something with either the motherboard or Windows. I'd go with windows first, just because its easier to do a clean install than it is to replace the motherboard.

Kind of an old thread but I just stumbled upon something similar.

I found out that whenever this happened, if you would connect the AC adapter the blue LED ring would start blinking. After a power drain, the AC adapter started charging regularly.

Power Drain --> Remove the battery and AC adapter, press and hold "Power" button for 30-45 seconds, then reinsert the battery and plug back the AC adapter.

this was what i started doing on my R2 to avoid reflashing BIOS.
This to make it run normally and start charging my battery again.
At first i re-flashed the bios over and over again every month to get the charging going.

Then again, the loose socket on my power input could have caused the computer not to recognize the PSU for a short periode and as long as it had power it didnt want to be friend with the psu again until after the drain.
