    Hello all

Trying to transfer files to a backup HDD and having problems with the speeds

Speeds start at like 80mbps then taper down to a stand still

Tried updating intel rapid storage drivers and no luck. Tried multiple searches but nothing helpful.
My disc drive is in higher speed mode when i click on its hardware properties like I saw in another post.

Any help would be much appreciated

I had a problem like that on our desktop PC. It turned out the SATA controller was going bad. You can always try testing with an eSATA file transfer to a different drive and see if the speeds stay up at 80 or if the speed slowly tapers. That'll tell you if it's the drive or the controller. Just a parting shot, it could also be the SSD (very very unlikely), or if you are transfering a lot of small files (1MB or less) I've found the file transfer lags between finishing one transfer and starting the next.

    Thanks for reply

Tried a few different hard drives, 3 total

First is a 1tb which was giving me the problems, lads about 3GB then like shuts off

both other hard drives will start at like 100mbps and taper down to about 70 when transferring a 14GB file

I thought esata was meant to be even faster?

I've never gotten above 105 MB/sec for a standard SATA HDD. Usually it will start up at around 95 then drop to 80-85 for the remainder. Both the other hard drives finished transfering the 14 GB file though, yes?

Doesn't mean the drive is dead. The file or drive could be fragmented beyond usage. If that's the case, you can try reformatting the drive (full format, not quick format) and see if the 14GB file will transfer over then.
