Hi guys, I'm having some serious problems here with my laptops graphic card. Early today my drivers started being funny, i was getting an error that my drivers are not working right and my PC resolution was low about 1280x1024 and i could not change the video adapters from my graphic card (amd 6870m) to inter display adapter so i you know "followed the typical stuff" uninstall reboot and install new drivers but nothing happened i still had the same problem. Then after few reboots and few more tries it finally came back "to life" somehow but it was working with the processors gpu. and i was curious what happened the graphic card so i vent to device manager to see if there is anything there but the only thing i could see was the intel display adapter but not my graphic card.So i did few more tries "booting and rebooting" but nothing happened again. So i tried something else i opened my laptop and i just barely push the graphic card thinking that might something is not making good contact and now my pc is working fine on safe mode but when i try to boot it on normal mode after the windows logo "now stating the windows" my screen is becoming white and after a while black it's seems that everything is working fine even with the black screen but i can't see anything nor i can change the graphics to the processors.

So i need some help please :D

Not speaking from experience here so see what others say, but the first thing I'd try is to remove the AMD altogether and make sure it all works then. If you get a series of beeps then either the on-board is disabled or it has a problem.

I did remove it all together but now we are moving back to the second problem my computer can't find the amd card now but the screen is working fine. And i had look what other people are saying but I'm getting confused because there so many people talking for similar problems that make things hard for me

You can also try an AlienRespawn to take the computer back to factory settings (all files will be deleted).

OK. I don't have switchable graphics so I can't say from experience but are you saying that without the card in, the intel shows up and everything is working fine? Put it back in and now the AMD is not showing up? What does fn-F7 do when both cards are in?

If you're not to bothered about loosing any installed stuff then Luis suggestion is a worth a try.

no i just removed the card and i put it back in after when i turn on the computer the intel showed up but not the amd.

It does nothing it just stays there like a lazy button not moving left or right. just kidding, but literary it does nothing, it doesn't activate the amd card.

Now i keep having look on device manager and i found something interesting When i had the white/black screen on normal windows start up but not on safe mode my amd card was on device manager.

But now that everything is working fine. There no amd card on device manager on both normal start up and safe mode.Maybe the card is dead or there a corruption on bios/windows.

And also i install new dot net and i did some more reboots some more drivers installs and remove more times the drivers.

Funny you just added that about drivers as that was my last suggestion. Since I don't have the same kit I have nothing more to try - except the respawn. Hopefully it isn't hardware but after a respawn, if it still does not work then you're going to have to get dell involved (if you still got warranty) and it will be easer since you have returned all the software to original.

Shame :(. What I suggest then is to remove the AMD and start up windows, make sure it all works and then put back in the AMD. See if it is still the same then restore it to factory. If still the same, sell it  and get the R4. Unless anyone else has any good ideas?
    Good Luck. :)

You could just buy another graphics card. Instead of a whole new machine... just my ten cents. ;)

First is to hard to find and second its expensive third is old getting old even if it is just a year
I prefer to buy the new Alienware m17x r4 I found on e-bay for 1500 dollars which it got better stuff inside or build a new custom tower than repairing my old laptop that who knows how long will survive.

And at the end I can just build the tower and keep my Alienware for other stuff like downloading or watching a movie.but if I buy a new Alienware ill have to sell my old one which is going to he hard because my graphic card is not working

Yes and no.yes because i to take something more high tech. and now because i can still fix this...If there is no hope...ill buy a new one....But either way i think i will build this Pc tower.

Now i will use AlienRespawn and later on if this is doesn't work ill format my laptop

Yeah, good luck. It sounds like you'll need to exhaust every avenue without going for the investment of a replacement card. If it turns out that the card is the problem you could also just take it out and see what you can get for it 'needing a second graphics card' but fully working?? If you get a new R4 then maybe think about extending the warranty a year, it's always the way, a few weeks after it expires so does the machine

Not sounding good. Have you tried defaulting the BIOS and/or putting on the latest dell BIOS? Just grabbing at straws, in case something there has got messed up

:D Excellent news! Was it after a clean reinstall?

If you're looking to repaste then there are plenty of threads with advice on what to use - and usually available mail-order, search 'thermal paste'. When I was building my water cooled rig a lot of the 'experts' I had advising would say that they are all pretty much the same, but I've seen threads claiming a few degrees better with x over y. I generally used whatever the manufacturer supplied with the water blocks.
