    Hey guys,
Do you know if an old 6990M heatsink is compatible with a Nvidia 680/780?
If not, I see Nvidia heatsinks for R3 460/560/580 or R4 660/675, any of these is compatible with 680/780?

6970m heat-sink (should be the same for 6990m)

I'm using a 580 heat-sink for about a year now and it will work if you fill in the missing spots needed by the 680m with good quality thermal pads.

I didn't try 6970m/6990m heat-sink myself but it could possibly work. You will need to rework the thermal pad arrangement and compensate with thicker pads if there is height differences. Go with 580 heat-sink if possible. Not sure if someone tried a 6990m heatsink with a 680m before.

You will also need the 680m x-bracket that looks like this. The 6970m one is only an X without the extra rectangular bit.

Just to add to pp_ph, the AMD heatsink has different size screws in many cases so you have to release the captive ones on the heatsink and replace them with the correct size in order to use the NV x-bracket. , I'd also remove any tape around the core area just in case it's a slightly different size ;)

The 6970m and 6990m heatsinks are the same. That heatsink is also used for the 460m and 560m:

The 580m and 675m heatsink have extra copper on them:

From the 680m onwards, the heatsink looks similar to the one from the 580m and 675m but there is a small lip on under the black area to cover more capacitors:

Might be worth trying Dell for a heatsink, they give reasonable prices from what I've seen.

Yeah, that's where I got mine. I had a look at the invoice and it does not have any part number it simply states 'out of warranty part' since I wanted a 680m heatsink. My machine (under warranty) is a 675m.

    Good luck ;)

Hey thanks, can you please send me the P/Ns of your 675 and 680 heatsinks?
The P/N is in a sticker on the heatsink. Check the photo attached.

Also, where did you get the parts from DELL? They have a website?

    Thanks!

Sure, I was hoping the receipts would give the P/N but no :(.

Man that is small...OMT1DN? For the 675 one. I'll need to open it up for the other one and I'll edit post :).

As for Dell, you just call the alienware help number. It's full service and not just for in-warranty calls. If you have a service tag you have a rep, and they can sell parts :)

    Edit:
    The 680m one is : 09CNMG.

    Needed a clean out anyway...

    Edit2: zero's are questionable cap 'O'
