For some strange reason I've been getting low benchmark scores in 3dmark 06 also in vantage mark 11. I just recently flashed my vbios to the .92v bios and my scores have dropped massively since. I have a gtx 580m and it is overclocked. Before the flash my scores weren't bad. With a slight overclock before the flash my scores improved a good amount. Now they've dropped. Anyone know what could be causing this ? My max temp only reaches about 70c so I don't think it's a heat related issue. Any help would be awesome.

    Most likely a power throttle.

Drivers? You have a log of temperatures and clock speeds during benchmarking as well?

I have ran heaven benchmark. It does seem this could be heat related. Even at stock clocks the card heats up to about 78 then the clock will drop to 73mhz from 620mhz. I'm using the latest nvidia drivers. Could this after all be a heat throttle ? Also what is the solution ?

Cleaned your fans lately? Take the bottom cover off and give it a good blow with some air and check for any dirt in there.

I checked it last week there was very little dust in there. I blew it out anyways. could this throttling be software related? I spoke to someone at Alienware about this he argued with me that it's a software issue

We use new heatsinks+thermal paste to avoid that. Have you tried going back to the previous vBios.?
