I tried searching all over the forums and dont see this covered, so I decided to post. I bought an Alienware m17x R3 about three weeks ago and planned to upgrade the memory and add a second hard drive myself. The memory upgrade went fine, but while Dell included a HD caddy for the second HD bay, they failed to include a 90 degree SATA connector to actually connect a second HD. I bought an adapter off eBay which was supposed to be compatible but I believe it was for an earlier generation m17x as it has too much plastic around the edges and does not fit my R3. I tried ordering the adapter through Dell and ended up getting continuous delays (3 weeks worth) and my order ended up being canceled. I also didnt have too much faith is actually getting the right part from them as the description listed in the order was an installation bracket; however, the representative on the phone claimed the adapter was part of this kit.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on the SATA adapter I need for the second HD to work on my m17x R3? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I just checked my drive caddy and found the rubber insert with the 90 degree adapter inside just as you described! Thanks a ton for your help! I have my second SSD installed and am ready to rock now!
