Ok I got my laptop replaced with an entirely different system because sleep and hibernation would not work. It has a 6990m gpu. I now have a gtx580m w/3d vision system and i STILL get random blackscreens on wake and hibernation always fails. What gives? Its stock, i didn't update anything!

It's a known issue with the R3's and I don't think a BIOS update can fix it. As for a resolution, I am not sure one exists.

I thought it was just a ATI gpu problem, but it seems that its a R3 mobo issue? You've got to be kidding me. Does this issue still exist on the M17xR4?

I get a similar problem on my R3 (580m GPU), on boot I can get to the login screen no problem, but after login the screen goes dark (with the occasional mouse flash) and push of the alien head to force a sleep followed by another push of the same button often restores the screen. Odd!!

I also notice that it appears that during sleep the screen was in a smaller than normal (1920x1080) resolution.

I think this may be related to the NVidia driver (301.40?) I updated to recently, have any of you recently updated drivers?

Nope, I'm on stock OEM dell setup, and still, sleep fails to work. Can we get someone from Dell on here to comment? Its not GPU specific, I have experienced this on ATI and nVidia gpus.

They should replace our computers with R4s if and only if the sleep problem has been fixed on R4s.
