HI,M17X R3 users...I want to buy a m17x r3 recently, but I can decide which video card to choose,GTX 460M with 3D or HD 6970M. I just play PES series and FIFA series, and I like watching blue-rays...So I want to know how the experience of watching movies through 3d is...? Is this awesome or just so so.... :D

Some games look INCREDIBLE in 3D, Crysis 2, for example. Can't cite a better game at the moment.

It's up to you, if you hold out for 2-3 months you will probably have the 485M option (speculation) which would be 10% or so faster than the fast ATI card they are offering which means more FPS in 3D mode !

Again, it's your preference but even outside of 3D, 120hz panels are so much "faster" :)

If you only play football games, then you can stick with the cheapest gpu : 6870, and the cheapest cpu: 2630. You'll have switchable graphics and you should be able to blow away most games with it anyway.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

If you're watching bluray's heavily, and plan to play nothing but the type of games you listed you'd probably be just fine with the 460m+3D/120hz. If you want to futureproof more and can let go of the 3D/120hz then go with the 6970m as it is a night and day power difference from the 460m.

I love watching 3D movie^^ when they are well realised with amazing effects. But 3D games is ( for myself) just an option because it's burning my eyes after 1 hours.
For sports game, the cheapest card is good, no need hd6970m or gtx485m.
Now it,s your desicion if you want an 120Hz screen or not,
but if it was for myself, i will wait seeing if an Bios update correct the compatibility with Ati and 120Hz screen.

But I've seen that guy who use R3 with HD6970M playing FIFA 11,the fps is still only 60...So I doubt that since the FIFA 12 and PES 2012 are nearly coming out, the i7 2630 and HD 6870M are still able to run them smoothly...
and one more question...Are the Nvidia 3D vision compatible with every 3D Blue-ray movies?

what you also have to keep in mind is that sooooo many of us who had the 3d (i returned mine for a 6970), never used 3d.. i admit, it is WAY cool...for about 10 minutes, then the eye strain kicks in and you take of the glasses and go back to 2d anyway. Active shutter technology is not for everyone.

just cause and batman are amazing in 3d, truly amazing. other games don't notice the effect so much. oblivion is also excellent, can't wait for skyrim...

i do have to scale my resolution back when playing in 3d, and sometimes the gfx settings, but its worth it in my opinion.

Never used it for movies, every 3D experience I've ever had with movies or anything aside from games was one I didn't really care for. Some games are amazing and are a lot of fun in 3D but I don't like movies in 3D at all for some reason. That part is up to you, I would say go to a local electronics store with a 3D tv display, if you like it you'll like 3D movies on this, if not you probably won't.

The idea of picking up 3d and having no guarantee of a possible upgrade in the near future is quite alarming and disturbing to me. Any possibility of an upgrade in the near future is made up of Complete Speculation , 100 hundred percent. In fact people have purchased the 750 dollar 485 GTX gpu and have successfully installed the GPU and got it running, but with no luck on the 3d aspect. So I suppose Dell needs to release something or perhaps Nvidia but there is no telling when or even if. That's why I ordered a second m17x R3 with the 5970.

i own the 3d bundle m17x r3 and im currently returning it for the 6970. its really not worth it at this point. and as far as the 120hz screen its only 120 wen you have 3d running otherwise its just a normal 60hz screen like the one without 3d. a plus with the 6970 too is you can toggle between ur discreet gpu and ur igp to increase ur battery life ALOT ;)
Edit: o and if you really want to play and watch in 3D you can buy a 3D external monitor. im pretty sure it will work with the 6970 and if not it will soon.

No, even without 3d you can still set your screen to run at 120hz and so you won't be stuck at 60 fps.
But exactly what didn't you like about your current configuration? Be specific if you can because I ordered a similar setup
