    Hello Guys and Girls

I have a M17x r3 laptop (about to be 2 years old in Dec) First time this problem happend was last week on Tuesday. I was working on the system and my screen started to act funny flicker and such and then when i restarted it did not turn on the screen it self upon booting to windows. ( the screen was on from the bios to booting of windows then when it booted the screen gets power just does not display the picture in the background) There is sound so the system is running just no picture. I ordered a new card a 7970m to replace the current card in my system the 6990m ... The system works of the graphics chip on the motherboard and boots up fine and runs fine just off the motherboard chip. After installing the new GPU still the same problems running Driver 13.6 on the new chip.

I have updated the BIO's to A12 (that did not fix the problem.

I am lost for words regarding on what is going on with the computer.

Oooh. Not cool. Do you still have a warranty? if you do, call dell. they will make it right. If you don't have warranty, try to extend it. It might cost you 500 bucks all said and done to extend the warranty, but you will be very well taken care of - they may just replace your system. Either way, you WILL have a working system in your hands within a week or two, and if not, you will be getting a replacement. That's what I would do.

If that's not an option, it is time to reseat the screen cable. Let me know how that goes.

I dont know how the screen cable would do anything, I am typing this replay on my system ( running of the intel unboard GPU from the motherboard) If that works i dont think it will make any difference with the off board GPU. I did try running on a VGA from an external monitor ... everythings displays to the point when the windows loads and logs in to the desktop. so after the loading park the screen goes black.

No i do not have the opportunity to get an extension on the warranty

oh. My bad. I thought that you were unable to see with integrated graphics too.

Can you save your files and then run alienrespawn? It will set it too original specs and drivers (alternately you could try driver sweeper) and then you can dump you apps and files back in. It would be a 1 or 2 hours tops process.

    Good luck!

You can try going into safe mode, that could work. It does seem like the VC died.
