So I basically have the M17x R3 with the basic i7 processor that it came with. Personally I think it works excellent and is more than enough for gaming. However, I just wanted to ask in the new m17x R4 the basic processor is the "3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)" will this processor make a significant difference when it comes to gaming? Right now I am thinking of either selling my laptop and buying a new one with a 7970m and the new processor or just upgrading to the gtx 580m and possibly to a different processor later if needed. Please if anyone can clarify if the processor will really matter when it comes to gaming? and is it worth completely selling my system at this point and buying a new upgraded one or will simply upgrading it manually suffice? Thanks. =]

There will be no difference. ZERO.

And you can upgrade to a 7970m in the R3. There is one going in the Marketplace... :D

Unfortunately I have the m17x r3 with the 3d vision =[ should I just go ahead and order a 580m or should I just wait until something else is released :D?

The 680M is coming up in July/August...maybe.
Though I wonder if Dell will offer that card as well, otherwise Ebay maybe.

I don't know if it will work and whats not but it's something to keep in mind.

EDIT: Will the 680m be a big jump over the 580m in terms of performance?

    Thanks mate

Aren't the early scouting reports on the 680m (in terms of rumours) that the 7970m is still expected to rule the roost?

yup...everything is pointing to that, but we won't know until the cards actually show up. The 680m will do very well to just match the 7970m...all early leaks show a 680 that does 4900 3dmark11's...that doesn't come close to the 7970m numbers
