Hey guys, recently I purchased the 780m on my Alienware M17x R3 120hz 3D model. I had clean installed Windows 7 and installed the drivers (going through safe mode, disabling IDT, etc). Now I have resolved sound issues with Windows 7 and everything is working fine.

Should I either upgrade, from 7 to 10, or as my preferred way clean install Windows 10. I've tried clean installing Windows 10 a while ago but could never get sound working as it would cause a white/blank screen, regardless if I installed the drivers in safe mode, etc.

    Any help is appreciated,

    Thanks.

When I installed Windows 10 I did the upgrade and after I checked to be sure everything was working correctly I then went into the Recovery and did the re-install but chose the option for a complete install which gets rid of all the bloatware...It takes a bit of time to do both but the benefit makes sure you got a clean copy working...Good luck

I always go for the clean install. I like to get everything set-up myself.

The problem is that most people still don't realize that the "free" upgrade key they get when upgrading from Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10, does NOT apply for clean installation of Windows 10.
I unfortunately learned this first hand...

So if you're not willing to fork out ~$100 for a Win10 key, then you will be forced to first install your previous Windows version then upgrade from that to Windows 10...

Sorry for the late response guys, I am supposed to get an email per reply on this post but didn't.

Anyways I fixed it up! The same thing had occurred to me with Windows 7 upon clean installation. The blue screen/black screen only appears on the 1st-3rd time of initial booting. After force shutting down the laptop the 3rd time on the 4th everything was normal.

For some reason applications like Skype, Beam-NG Drive (car crash simulator), and other misc, app's give me a black/blue screen where I have no idea on how to fix it. Oh and btw I got a free key for Windows 10 Pro as I'm a government student lol.
