    Hi,

I have installed windows 8 on my M17x R3. I have installed latest driver that i have found on the Dell site.
I have installed Dell video driver for my AMD HD 6970m, then i have installed AMD driver 12.10, but i have very bad in-game performance. I have low framerate for example in modern warfare 3, world of warcraft...
I have the latest Dell bios.
I know that there are not official windows 8 Dell driver for the M17x R3...but what can i do for my bad in game performance? Does anybody has the same issues?

    Thx for the reply!!!

I have tried installing the latest driver but i have the same poor in-game performance.

I'm thinking to try a Windows 8 clean install...if this not solve my problems i will reinstall Windows 7...

Have you tried 12.11 Beta 4 or the 7900MOD drivers from that site?

    Yes!!!

I have uninstalled the driver, the AMD software, restart, run driver sweeper, restart, installed Intel video driver, installed Dell video driver and then the 12.11 Beta 4... is it right?

    But not solve my problem...

NOO!!! Installing the Dell drivers makes it as UNCLEAN as possible. In other words, some traces of the old driver (dlls) are left behind. Avoid them. This time use the latest AMD beta drivers directly, and don't install on top of another driver.

Ok...i have installed the 12.11 Beta 4 and i have blank screen on wakeup.
Now i can't switch between the AMD card and the Intel card.
Modern warfare 3 seems to run correctly and well...but other games (like World of Warcraft and Mafia 2) seems to use the Intel card because the fps are very low...

No i was not able to force the GPU switching....but i found a solution...

I have seen that my first GPU was the Intel so every game was running using the Intel card and not the 6970m. I think that's was the problem.
I was unable to switch between the Intel GPU and the AMD GPU.

My solution to enable the 6970m was to enter the bios (i have the latest Dell Bios for M17x R3) and change the type of display. Doing so i have disabled the Intel GPU.
No more blank screen!!! Now Windows 8 has enabled only the AMD card.

I have tried some game (World of Warcraft, Modern warfare 3 and Mafia 2) and they now run well.

I hope to find a solution to re-enable the Intel video card...

I've speculated the problem with the blank screen after wake up is the with intel driver's packaged with the 12.11 beta 4 install. I had the same problem, and even disabled the onboard GPU to fix the issue. Ultimately on Prasad's advice, I did the Dell drivers + 12.11 drivers; so far haven't seen a frame rate issues and I do most of my gaming in WoW. You might want to look at Blog ← leshcatlabs.net ← Keeping it simple They specialize in modifying bundled AMD+Intel drivers for various computers. Or try installing an older Intel video driver which I believe is what the dell drivers do in the first place. That may also fix your issue.
