Hi, I've been doing some searching about upgrading graphics drivers and the problems caused by the integrated graphics and BSODs when you try and upgrade. Can anybody point me at the latest wisdom for which drivers to use and how best to install them as there seem to be various bits of advice and all of it is a couple of months old.
Really want to get recent drivers as Skyrim which should play smooth as anything is just about OK with a couple of settings turned down.
Thanks.

Just download them off the Dell website. There won't any drivers more recent than what you find there. The AMD website don't have drivers for this card if its running in an environment that enables graphics card switching for some reason

phang, download and install the latest drivers from Dell...then install over the dell drivers with these:
AMD Catalyst 12.3 RC 8.95 31 January – BenchmarK3D
Don't worry, your switchable graphics will still work just fine -
Thanks for that, I'll give it a go tonight. Will I get the BSOD issues using these drivers or is it a straightforward install?. Really don't want to spend all evening fighting with drivers, have so little time for gaming that every second in Skyrim is precious

Hi Slick,
How much difference do these drivers make over the lastest Dell drivers?
Worth the upgrade just to stay current?
No issues now but latest and greatest always appreciated.
thanks -
Well, that was fun. It installed OK, after a crash then second install but loading up skyrim gave loads of graphical glitches, very pixelated around light sources and other features. On the plus side the FPS was up significantly but it's not really playable due to the glitches. Have now restored back to stock drivers and all is as it was.

hey Dr J, the latest Dell AMD drivers are based off the 11.5 cats. They are extremely old. Going to 12.x will see huge performance gains in the newer games
That's odd. I get no glitches. What version of skyrim are you running? -
what about these leshcat blog IT Tips & Tricks
seems alright enough -

That's very interesting! I will give the drivers from this site a try on the next iteration rep+ -
there seems to be a new version already which is marked February 14th
-
hey Slick, I use this driver alright...... the switching graphic still works, but only from keyboard input, because I can't open CCC and graphic properties from right click command....
Did your CCC still open normally with this driver ??
anyway, how I can check that I already installed this graphic driver correctly ?? because I get BSOD at my first try..... -
If you get a BSOD, restart and install/try again.
-
I haven't updated my drivers since I got my computer. Is it worth upgrading? I'm pretty scared something will go wrong because all my previous driver installs ended in a BSOD for me. What should I do? I don't want to mess up,
-
exactly that what i'm doing.....
-

ya dude CCC is opening fine for me
If you want to check if it installed, you can go into your device manager, display drivers and go to the properties of your card to look at the driver version, OR you can download GPUz that will tell you the driver version installed
If you are happy with your performance, then you dont' have to do anything...however, the newer games like Skyrim, BF3 etc run better on the newer drivers -
slick...what was your experience on the leshcat drivers that i linked to earlier......?
-
There's this one map on Battlefield 3 called Gulf of Oman, which gives me huge FPS drops. I don't play Skyrim. How would I get around installing the latest 12.x drivers? If possible, I don't want to BSOD.
-
My skyrim version is 1.4.21.0.4 and it really didn't play nice with that first set of drivers listed. Haven't tried the lechcat drivers yet.
-
Now installed the 12.2 previews from the other thread and so far all is well, no bsod or anything. Skyrim looks fine too averaging over 40fps on a quick looksee, will capture a decent length of time later and see what I get when there is loads happening.
-
Arrghh.... Skyrim Glitches still happen in 12.3.....
-
How did you install everything?
-

^^ Download the drivers from here:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst122Previewdriver.aspx
Then run the exe and follow the prompts. It shouldn't be harder than that -
Yup, that's what I did, just ran the file and let it do it's thing, selected custom install but then didn't actually deselect any bits of the driver pack.
-
ups, corrected.....
the glitching in skyrim only happen when I used AA on..... set all the other setting to high & ultra run just fine....
Now, my CCC also working normally. Just Uninstall from Catalyst manager, and reinstall again only CCC on the checklist...... -

Phang ... Did you get this working?
-
Yes, all seems fine with 12.2, doesn't actually seem much better in Skyrim and I am noticing the odd minor glitch I didn't notice before.
-
Successfully updated to 12.3. now when I launched IE I got this "The Steady Video BHO Class Ad-On From Advanced Micro Devices, Inc is ready for use". Enable Disable
I disabled it since I have no clue how or if it would enhance web browsing lol -
anyone tried the feb 28 8.96 drivers?
-

I looked at the benchmarks but didn't see enough improvement from 8.95 to warrant going through the process. Let me know what you think if you update.
