Anyone here have same M17x R3 with added 7970M running Windows 10, and getting unrecoverable black screen, basically have to force power off by holding down the power button for 5 seconds?
Installed Windows 10, at first I thought all was fine. As I now believe when was running fine was only using the built in Microsoft display driver which isn't good for anything, other than just 2D.
Later on AMD driver was installed from Windows update, then the problem started. If I leave the machine for about an hour the screen stays black, and I cannot wake it up, nor can does RDP work to the machine. Kind of going but it isn't. Have to hold down the power button for 5 seconds and power back up again, losing all my work or anything that is open.
Even tried installing the official Windows 10 drivers directy from Microsoft, but still the same outcome or result.
People with the M17x R3 and the 7970M, is there any work around fix, without rolling back to old operating system.

Looks like the driver doesn't properly recover the amd gpu from sleep mode. I would suggest to disable sleep and see how that goes.

Although way more of a problem with the M17x R3, as every time I walk away for about 30 minutes or so, screen is blank, and cant even connect to network shares, so there is a little more going on than just a black screen.
I have tested, making the screen turn off, and putting the system to sleep, and screen goes back on again fine, also wakes from sleep no problem. Problem seems if the unit it left alone (as in not actually going in to a sleep mode) and the screen turns off, it will not come back on. I cannot RDP to the unit either to shut it down cleanly or to recover anything either. -
Having the same problem here, and its not related to sleep mode. Installing the drivers in the correct order give me a "Thread stuck in device driver" after install.

Strangely mine is running ok now. I didn't several driver removals of the AMD drivers and then tried to force the original MS drivers onto the system.
I am suspecting that once the Catalyst Control Center was removed then it start going OK, only leaving the actual display driver on the system. I did install and then remove Alienware OSD Application, where I somewhat suspect too.
