I ordered an alienware on 3/16. I spec'd out a 2820 with a 6970. It was to be shipped on 4/6. It now shows to ship on 4/20 but even that is no guarantee. I began talking with them around the 27th of March. I found out they "ran out" of the motherboard on the day it was supposed to ship.

I was told, ironically enough, on 4/1 by a Mr. Orlando P*(**n that they would do a series of things to get this fixed and call me the following Monday. That call never occured. I followed up with a couple of emails thereafter. Finally reached them on 4/6 and that's when they told me, "Oh, all of our M17's can't ship because we just found out we have no motherboards". WHAT?!?!?!?

I asked why this information was not available on Friday 4/1? They do use JIT. No Answer. I ask when they will get the parts in stock? They have no idea. I ask why no one could follow up, no answer. I ask why he never called me back? Oh, he was sick all week. Huh... He sent an email on the 4th, which seemed to completely ignore the conversations we had. I spoke to his boss, which was even more fruitless. I emailed his boss's boss. Never a response.

Any kind of compensation offered to quell the disappointment (and by this I mean sending it overnight so I don't have to wait another 5 biz days)? Nope.

This was not the only Dell I had ever ordered, but this was certainly the worst experience... Dell, HP, Compact or whoever.

So now, I continue to look for alternatives. When I find one suitable, I will buy it. Till then, I am hosed. :(

Sounds like its delayed. Suck, but I've heard of worser things.

Only other alternative with a high end GPU like the RADEON 6970 is SAGER.

    Good luck

Yea Dell do really suck IMO. Very hard to talk with and get your point across cause all they do is read off a sheet....

The business and education side tend to be much more helpful than Dell Home. There are no words to describe how bad Dell home is. ;)

Yeah, same here. I have been considering their offerings due to the customizations mostly. Otherwise, there aren't really any benchmarks/reviews of them online to get a better idea of how good they are.

I mean Fatal1ty is sponsored by them, but that's it. You don't really hear much else about the brand.

I like that company from what I read and see. Check em out...they have a forum last time I checked, personal service.

Dell is a good company to deal with, they are just delayed for parts or WHATEVER it is with the M17x..its all new tech in there, and its early...Apple delayed ipad 2 orders 5-6 weeks when it first came out...and its an ipad! It happens as much as I know it's annoying...

First off, how does Origin PC differ from sager/clevo/eurocom & else?
Second, if you actually do know how to get your point across, Dell is pretty decent company to deal with. they don't just sell laptops, they have a variety of products which is hard to monitor in terms of quality, though once you do things that actually stress your concern, any issue is solved sooner or later. I think compared to many other businesses dell work more than good. Prove me wrong, but I've never heard of any service Asus or Lenovo or else big manufacturer does to its customers.

Eh Origin isn't that great. They use clevo just like everybody else, so their design is not unique. Plus they charge WAY more than anybody else. Try maxing out their laptop, then do the same with an IDENTICAL sager. Going to be 500$+

Dell's service is pretty good, next day in-house tech? Don't think Origin can beat that...

Yeah their prices are awful high. Priced out a Eurocom Racer, as a teacher and grad student I get 10% off. Called and asked Origin, they said they don't have any discounts and quote on a "case by case" basis.

The advantage their would be US Base Tech Support. Other than that, I don't really see an advantage.
