I recently became the owner of a lot of mobile GPUs, including a burnt out 660, a new 660, and 2 680Ms.

After looking at the options, I've decided to build a laptop even my mom would be proud of.

I've put desktops in SLI before and have seen tons of guides about it, but how does the process work in a laptop? I've looked for guides but haven't found a thread flushed out with results.

I heard that I'll need to do some surgically attach 2 power bricks which won't be a problem. But how does the actual SLI process work?

M17's only have one video card slot...so no SLI for you.

You need to move up to the m18 chassis if you want SLI

I saw an M17x R2 with 7970s in crossfire close just the other day though.

Or is the R2 chassis's slots different from the R4?

The R3 and R4 version went with single GPU configurations. They are significantly different than the R1 and R2.

omg WIDEZU! How are you doing mate?

ya, widezu is 100% correct...R2's had dual vidcard slots...R3 and later only has one videocard slot. Like I said above: You need to go to m18x for SLI. You can confirm this easily enough...just go to the alienware website and configure a m17. Your only option is to upgrade to a single 780m. If you configure the m18, you have multiple choices, including SLI and/or crossfire if AMD cards are being offered
