    M17x R4 (Late 2012)
    i7 3610QM
Nvidia GTX 675M (Have a second card for testing)
    16GB of DDR3

I have been having issues with this laptop for quite some time. With a clean HDD I have used the alienware software to reinstall windows 7 home 64bit. I have installed each driver one by one and directly from dell. I left the video drivers for last. First I install the intel driver without problems, and once restarted I then install the nvida drivers. Upon restart the moment windows gets to the desktop the computer freezes. It does not shut off or go black, just locks up and freezes in place. I can however restart it into safe mode and use display driver uninstaller to uninstall the nvidia drivers and then i can restart into windows normally.

I have tried verson 307.17 ,A01 and 331.65 ,A02 (both on the dell site under my service tag) with the same result.

I have also pulled the exact same card (GTX 675M) out of a working laptop of the same generation, and I have had the exact same problem.

    Any Ideas?

This is very confusing. Without you testing a working spare I would have sworn that the 675 had crapped out. I have see so many (inc.3 of my own) of them die in a very similar way. For research purposes the 675m is a rebadged 580m identical in every respect. Also died in droves.

Is it a 120hz panel? Not that makes much diff except you can't test it without the NV GPU. Since it bombs when the NV driver loads you could try DDU'ing it and then see if windows will offer to update it (you might have to trigger the search). Grabbing at straws, so also give one of the latest drivers from NV a go. Otherwise all I can think of is a damaged/dirty edge connector on the MB. Some solvent and a can of compressed air is best for cleaning that.

    Good luck
