Has anyone been able to enable Infredred port and use it with a universal remote on M17xR4 ?

I am missing the tiny remote from my M1730 and want the same for my r4 :(

I tried using intelliremote but it cannot find the ir device.

IR comes up in bios though for my R3, so it must have it there somewhere.

Strange, it does not have one. Do you have a 3D model? That uses an IR emitter for the glasses and shows up in device manager under USB controllers.

Nope, but with unlocked bios it gives option to enable or disable IR receiver and gives frequency selection.

I'd ignore that, probably something exposed by the unlock that is not there? You can also (on a 120hz model) set the bios to PEG with an unlocked bios. This will brick a 3D model since there is no iGPU connected :(

Are you talking about this kind of remote?

What would you use it for? If you have a smart phone you can probably set it up as a remote and save some money.

It might be an extra controller hard coded into the BIOS. The motherboard in my desktop is the same way. It comes with a header on it's southbridge for a CIR Receiver. If I were to enable the CIR in the BIOS, it would show up in the Device Manager even though there was nor IR receiver diode plugged into the motherboard.

PEG is PCI Express Graphics. I would think changing it off PEG would brick the system, not the other way around.
