Correct me if I'm wrong but the m17x r4 motherboard can take up to DDR3 1600 MHz. So how is it beneficial if someone were to put in a 1866Mhz+ ram in their laptop?

You can overclock it with MSI afterburner or some other application of the like. When it comes to RAM clock speeds, if the RAM you install has a higher clock speed than what your motherboard can take, the BIOS will run the new RAM at the maximum clock speed it can (e.g. 1600 MHz).

If I'm not mistaken... You can do some things and eventually make the system capable of running at 1866Mhz... but really not sure.

Other than that, if I'm not mistaken again, someone could downclock it to 1600Mhz and get tighter timings... again not really sure :p haha
