Hi, I've performed a clean reinstall of Windows 7 and need help with installing the drivers. I've read BatBoy's guide but I still don't understand which of the drivers need to be installed and in what order; for example there are 3 drivers listed on the downloads page under Network, and I don't know which ones I need. I've listed below the drivers that appear for my system on the Dell downloads page:

    Application:
    LNG3DM Motion Sensor
    DELL,SRV,SW,OSD,ANW,M18XR2,0.32.0.2C,A00
    Alienware Command Center

    Audio:
    DELL,SRV,SW,DRVR,AUDIO,ANW,M14XR2,6.0.100.2033,A01

    BIOS:
    Voyager MLK(M17R4) BIOS A11

    Chipset:
    Card Read
    Intel HM77 Panther Point Chipset
    Intel Management Engine Interface
Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver

    Input:
    synaptics Touchpad

    Network:
    LAN
    Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230
    Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 Bluetooth

    Serial ATA:
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology

    System Utilities:
    LNG3DM Motion Sensor

    Video:
    Intel(R) IvyBridge HD Graphics
Nvidia 307.17 Win 7 64b for Alienware Notebooks

I'm at my wits end with this, so I'd really appreciate the help.

    Thanks :)

Hi, I just did this in the last week as I installed a new SSD. It does seem a little confusing, but I think it is pretty hard to mess it up. Are you downloading the files on another computer and then installing them on the M17x via a flash stick or such?

Hi, the only choice I see there is the wireless card. Either you have that one or a separate dell bluetooth module. Worst case your BT won't work. For all the others, I'd start with the chipset, followed by the sata. Let windows do all it's updates. Go onto the others in your order of choice. Don't bother with the BIOS though. You'll have basic audio and display drivers when windows finishes so you'll be updating them.

What I don't know is any special decisions about the order of the video drivers, but without anyone saying I do the intel one first.

    HTH

In terms of the drivers, update in any order, when I installed windows 8, I just did them alphabetically I think haha.

For video drivers though, like MickD1234 says do intel first, but it depends on your GPU. Nvidia drivers don't include the integrated drivers, and if you have optimus it will refuse to install without the iGPU installed first.

Thanks for the input man. I've seen some oddities with dual gpu machines like having to Fn-F7 before driver install but that may have been AMD beta woes? Getting the 120hz model without the intel GPU was the best decision I made with this one! Never need it and it just seems to get in the way of a gaming rig :(

Thanks guys I really appreciate the input. I think I've more or less got this figured out now, but I have just a couple more questions.

Batboy's guide says the USB driver isn't needed for the M17x R4, so do I just skip over it?

Is the application driver called "DELL,SRV,SW,OSD,ANW,M18XR2,0.32.0.2C,A00" the Alienware On-Screen Display Driver?

And is the "LNG3DM Motion Sensor" driver the Freefall Sensor driver? Also it appears in both Applications and System Utilities, I presume they are the same thing?

    Thanks a lot :)

USB driver, doesnt 100% matter but try installing it I guess, it will tell you if its not needed anyways.

"DELL,SRV,SW,OSD,ANW,M18XR2,0.32.0.2C,A00 is the OSD (on screen display)

and yes thats the freefall driver, just install one of them should be fine.

Dell have recently started repackaging the drivers I think into a fancy applet thing thats why they are all named weirdly.

Yeah, do the chipset drivers first, but don't get real hung up on exact order. I misread when I was doing my clean install a week or so ago, and it still came out just fine.

Installed the drivers today, everything's working well so thanks for the help guys!

Only problem I'm having now is that the Alienware Command Centre won't install. I've tried installing it after performing all the Windows updates just in case that was the problem but I still get an error message. It gives me this message:

    Alienware Command Center
    v2.8.8.0 (A01) February 07, 2013
    Failed
A problem occured installing this update package.

Anything I can do about this?

    Good news!

Maybe try an earlier version first? There seems to be 4 revisions there.

    Cool, you're welcome.

Unless you want win 8 you probably don't even need the latest version.

Is there anyway I can download the other Alienware programmes which come packaged with the system, like AlienRespawn and AlienAutopsy? I remember seeing a page with links somewhere but I can't seem to find it now...

There is a link inside Respawn or search out 'my dell downloads'. You have to create an account (if you don't already have a dell one) and register your service tag and then you get access to all the licensed software like the webcam and DVD software. :D

Respawn has it's own link : http://alwdownload.alienrespawn.com/alwdownload-en.html and Autopsy here: http://support.dell.com/support/top...alien_autopsy?c=us&l=en&s=gen&DoNotRedirect=y
