I been trying for almost a month to get the 1060 working in the M17x R4 to no avail, tried 37 drivers from nVidia from the first one to the last ones for 1060.
The card runs in SG mode, full GPT partition for both W7 and W8.1 tried every muxing setting in unlocked bios to no avail.
Had same issue on the Clevo P150 but that was fixed by using different drivers.
The laptop boots fine with the GPU, recognised in BIOS everything suggest it should work.
Except after installing the driver.
I have LVDS monitor, makes no sense that the card would work on the P150 with optimus but not on the Alienware when WX7100 worked just fine which is also eDP card only.

This is used for CLevo P1xx notebooks, hence pascal etc. works with optimus.
As for the whole Rx 480/7100 working in Alienware, I don't exacly know.
Maybe the card does support LVDS, I couldn't neither confirm or deny wheter or not polaris does support LVDS. It never has been specified, and considering it's still the GCN architecture I wouldn't be suprised if it does support LVDS for some reason.
However, same can be said for alienware, when turning SG on, you also convert eDP signals to LVDS, however, when going for SG + eDP card, you need to be on Windows 8.1/10 and turn UEFI completely on.
-> UEFI-> on
-> Secure boot-> off
-> Load legacy option rom -> Off
Then try again, it should wotk in SG mode on alienware as well. Eurocom tested and confirmed it. -
I'm running a 1060 perfectly fine in SG mode in an Alienware M18x. 1060 is eDP only. The iGPU converts the eDP signal (thanks to optimus).
Are you running the 120hz display or 60hz display? -

The M17xR4 does not have an RGB display. Only the M17xR2 offered an RGB display. The M17xR3/R4 are WLED displays. The whole point of the 120hz on M17xR4 is to have support for cards like 1060 in PEG mode.
Try to do this:
1) https://mega.nz/#!suJ1QYYI!bBKDBtwuxPhlt_GnlrNOOvpl-EnqIjR9LLjb4X9Ir7U
2) http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/399.07/399.07-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe
Extract the ZIP file. You need to boot using "disable driver signature enforcement" and run the nVidia installer.
setup.cfg goes in: C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\399.07\Win10_64\International
nv_display.inf & nvdmi.inf goes in: C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\399.07\Win10_64\International\Display.DriverSMGJohn likes this. -
Is better to just get the eDP display and run the GPU in PEG mode because Enduro and Optimus has always taken away 10 to 25% performance, a 60Hz eDP display cost nothing and the cable is cheap on Taobao but if you are in a hurry, 3 times the price on eBay but quicker delivery.
