I'm looking at prospective options for the future and one of them is adding internal WWAN. Through my research I found it would work best if I replaced the WLAN card with a combo WWAN/WLAN card. Unfortunately I don't know the size in the R4 version. Is it half-height or full-height?

i.e. - would something like this work? --> Product portfolio | Option

It's GPS/WLAN/WWAN combo half-height. No Sim slot so it's probably internal. Looks like it uses 2 antenna.

Yes, the height of that card is correct. The m17x's use a half-height mini card. Only minor issue you might run into, WWAN cards are SUPPOSED to use two antennae separate from the two or three WLAN antennae. The m17x's have three antennae for the WLAN and one for the bluetooth module. The card you're looking at needs four, two for the WLAN, and two for the WWAN. Whether or not it can run with just the three is a question I don't have the answer to. I do know two years ago I was running wifi and Wimax off an Intel 6250 card in my R2. That card only took three antennae. Personally, I'm gonna wait until there is an affordable WWLAN/LTE card out there and by then, my entire area should have LTE. Using a WWAN slot for 3G just doesn't seem pratical for the future.

Ahh... alright. I'm going to keep looking around and keeping my options open. Thanks for your input.

De nada. I haven't found a 4G LTE/WLAN combo half-mini card out there...yet. That Option HSPA+/WLAN combo card is the only I've seen other that the Intel Wimax/Wifi cards. Give it some time, Intel or Qualcomm will come out with a WLAN/4G combo card.
