Hey, I have a problem with my R4. Some times when I put the laptop to sleep and wake it up I have no sound and it says 'no speakers or headphones plugged in' I have got rid of it by uninstalling the audio drivers then restarting and doing a start up repair. I have looked for some drivers online but no luck. My resource disk that came with the laptop is blank too... Cheers dell!
Any ideas?

dells website has all of the official drivers. That is weird that your Resource CD came blank!

thanks, on my order list it says I have Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di with THX TruStudio Pro Software. I cant find this on the site
The link is different to the alienware driver page I was looking on http://support.alienware.com/Support_Pages/Restricted_Pages/driver_downloads.aspx
Thanks Im downloading the drivers off your link now -
If you log into the Dell Support website you can enter your service tag. It should then have a list of all the drivers for your machine based on the hardware that it was built with.

I tried the drivers. It asked me to remove modify or repair. I tried repair and it gave me an error. I removed them and restarted now it says it cant find any supported hardware

If you have the 7970M and you turned off the Integrated Graphics. When I do and usually I keep the 7970 on all the time I will lose my audio until I do the Fn+7 thing and reboot.Just a thought.

I did a system restore then re installed the drivers. Still didnt have audio, then tried what Trucker said and it worked! Thanks mate +1

If the issue persists you might wanna update your BIOS, if it continues then send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we'll review your case.

Will do, and is there any point in updating the bios from the standard one? I don't overclock anything if that helps.

I have this same issue, sometimes my speaker icon in the bottom right corner will say "no speakers or headphones plugged in" and the sound won't work. I re-installed the newest dell drivers but it still happens.
I have the 680m + 3d screen so I know its not the optimus causing this issue
A quick restart fixes the issue but I noticed it started happening after I installed my SSD's
Also I have an issue with my 'ethernet controller not found' or soemthing like that, I can't find any drivers and the autofix thing isn't working but not sure if its even an issue since my wifi is working? -
Hi can you please help. Now after this issue has gone, I've lost control of the volume. For example even turning the volume up and down does nothing, mute does nothing. I can only control the volume in the application I'm in / website I'm using. For example youtube, vlc player.....
What's up with my laptop!! -

-
Do I need to update my bios? And what happens if I update my bios? What gets reset etc..... Haven't really updated it before, only after formatting one pc.
Where is the bios update I need, if I need one that is!
I ran the audio troubleshooter
Windows 7 Volume Control does not work properly. - Microsoft Community
But it says everything is fine when it most certainly isn't! -
I also ran Alien Autopsy and it said everything was fine too...
