I've heard that when the laptops closed, the keyboard scratches the screen. Is this true with even the R4 model? I could put a microfiber cloth on top of the keys when i turn the laptop off, but that'll just get annoying!
Any help would be greatly appreciated![]()

Nah, that's not true. Who even said that? If that's true then I guess Alienware should make a new batch of laptops because that is definitely a big problem on their part. But I usually have a microfiber cloth on it. Just for cleaning purposes.

CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
Mine got some small scratch, caused by the palmrest. Once the laptop is inside the Orion back pack the compression of the screen can be so that the 2 small rubber bumps are not enaugh. At least that was the case for my R2. Since then i've cutted a white cotton T-shirt and use that as a protection. It work flawlessly and i had care to cut it properly

I'm glad that didn't happen to my laptop. Then again I always have my microfiber covering the touchpad area.

What about putting that mesh-like cover that the laptop comes concealed in, in-between the lid + keyboard when closing the laptop?
-
I think that would work too?

looking at my screen now, that hasn't actually happened to mine even though i close it often. Those rubber things of mine fell out a few months ago though

The keyboard definitely does scratch the screen. I have an m17x r4 and my girlfriend has an m14x r2. She's been through two laptops and the keyboard touched the screen on both of them leaving marks when shut. Mine does the same. Just get a Shaggymac for around $15. Covers the entire keyboard and trackpad.

I've seen four M17x R4's, and all but one had at least one key touching. Just close the lid and hold it up to the light (looking from the front to back, and you might see if some touch). I've seen them touch even without pressure on the lid, so I would imagine that being in a backpack would only make it worse.
I purchased a custom size Radtech Screensavr ( Keyboard Cover) just to be safe. Sounds like key marks on the screen might not be covered as Dell considers this cosmetic ...I would suggest you play it on the safe side. -

Thanks, since this will be my all-in-one machine for 3 years, which I'll use for work, watching all my tv shows and for gaming with no external screen or keyboard, I'll just have to take care of it and get that cloth. Or get dell to replace my screen a fair few times and make use of my warranty haha

Razer Kabuto Gaming Mouse Mat - Ultra Thin Mousemat
Get this, mousepad and screen protector. It's fantastic - have had it for over a year now. -

I have that mouse mat, don't use it though. I also have the Razer sphex - prefer a hard mat surface, mouse glides easily and it's stuck on my desk nicely

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
i've had quite a few issues over the last year I've owned mine. (I've had my screen replaced 3 times now) Problem with mine is that the media bar always touches the screen and both the plexi glass and the media bar are all scratched up. I haven't heard of the issue though since right after my machine was delivered, so I think they fixed it with machines manufactured later. When I upgrade to the 1080p screen ill prob buy the shaggymac and a new media bar just to make sure I don't have to replace it again. Would be cool if Alienware upgraded to gorilla glass in there next model. A lot harder to scratch.
M17x R4 coming tomorrow - 7970m :D Wondering about keyboard scratching screen?
