    Hi,

Just received my m17x r4 today and am just in the process of setting this up / installing programs now.

I'm wondering what I need to do to install the correct drivers for this machine. It came with a resource cd, but I'm not sure what to do with this. When I load up the resource dvd I thought it would just update all the drivers that I needed. This obviously isn't the case. Any help would be appreciated.

It should have all the drivers pre-installed, except for the dedicated graphics card, you might have to install that one.

The resource DVD is incase you choose to do a clean install. That way you have access to all of the drivers.

Did you do a clean install of Windows or are you using the stock OS install? If your running the stock Alienware install you will have to install your dedicated GPU drivers so AMD or intel depending on what you chose.

If you went with the fresh install, follow this

It is a post from another forum member and will walk you through it pretty much step by step , it is a good guide :)

Hi! You should have received the computer with the latest drivers for all components, changing the drivers in the machine to newest ones from a site other than DELL's might result in loss of features. I would recommend you to use the stock drivers. Most people update their video driver when they first got the computer but I would do this only if a game asks you to do so.

Hi Luis, sorry to go a little OT here but you intrigued me with your answer.

I have a 675m and when I started 'The Secret World' to said my driver was out-of-date and I needed a V301 or later driver. A search of Nvidia produced no results for this card and the Dell ones are older. I contacted Nvidia to be told 'we do not provide drivers for newer M chips, that is the responsibility of the OEM.'

The latest beta (304.48) DOES list it but failed for me with a 'unsupported hardware' error. I got it to install using an inf file from laptopvideo2go but my question is:

When do dell intend to update the approved video drivers (for their premier GAMING machine) on their site? The 508m is even worse for very old drivers

If you could also shoot this over to whoever is responsible; The driver for the 675m under the R4 has an issue. It states that it is V296.16 but the file name is V296.39, which is the version mine came pre-installed with

Apologies to the OP for hijacking
    Thanks :)

Thanks, I won't hold my breath but here's hoping that another complaint about the lack of recent drivers gets some movement
