    Hi

I was thinking about buying and Playstation 3 just to be able to play GTA5 :D

Thing is I have a very old B&O TV from 89, which is not very good. i was wondering if i could just go ahead and plug the ps3 to my laptop through the HDMI in port and be able to play it on my 17" laptop HD screen?

Or will I face any issues with that?

Thanks :) And have a good weekend,
    Regards Rasmus Mikkelsen

Should be fine. Will look better in HD as well anyways. No issues, sound will also come through the laptop, you may need to set it up to 'listen' to the HDMI input device.

When I use my PS3 through my m17x r3, the sound comes through the speakers without me having to change anything. I'm certain the HDMI video and audio completely bypass the rest of the laptop.

Just any old HDMI cable will be fine. If you have anything else which can output HDMI might be worth trying just to see how it works. Shouldnt be any issues anyways, its just basically an external display when it is used in HDMI input mode.

A little caution if you have an Nvidia card; I tried using my PS3 through HDMI in over the weekend and could not get it to run (on the newer drivers). I tried the latest beta, and my current (314.22) driver. It stopped after a few seconds resulting in a black screen that requires a restart (or wake up), and with the 314.22, it would not work at all ...running a 680m (120hz); just a heads up if you have a similar setup.

I have never had to change a thing on my R4 and i have used my PS3 and a few other things this way before. plug it in and turn on the PS3 and wait a few seconds, the screen should change automatically and the sound at least in my case switched with it :)

    Have fun :)

Make sure you set the display not to turn off when idle.

I have m17xr4 with 7970m and plugging in ps3 at hdmi-in automatically switches to ps3 and sound comes from speakers.

    Very useful feature :)
