There's something wrong with my M17x R4, in that it doesn't want to boot up properly. Two things that are happening:
    1) When I put the laptop into sleep mode, it will sleep. But when I open the lid to use the laptop, it starts the LEDs for a second before shutting down and restarting. Nothing is shown on the screen while this happens. Then the computer restarts and informs me that the computer did not shut down properly, asking me whether to start windows in safe mode or boot normally.
    2) If I shut down the laptop, after I press the power button, all the lights turn on, except for the power button itself (the alien head). The lights stay on for a second, turn off for a second and then the computer boots perfectly, without any issues.

This is not a random or rare occurrence, it happens every time I shut down the laptop or put it into sleep mode. What can I do to make it stop doing this? I keep feeling that if I don't solve this, it may lead to bigger issues.

Motherboard related issue. These issues have been seen by myself and others, what we have done is had complete system replacements due to having the computers only a month or in my case a few weeks. Call into alienware and discuss the issue.

Well... Atleast now I know what's the problem. I got this laptop from the US but I live in India. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get any kind of support from Dell or Alienware here.. But now that I know the cause of the problem I can try and find a solution. Thanks a lot for the reply!

EDIT: I've had this laptop for nearly a year now though. Your post mentions the issue coming up in a few months/weeks, while I've had this for around 9-10 months.

Might be a graphics card driver issue. What card do you happen to have?

I chose the base Nvidia GTX 660M and I have updated the graphics drivers regularly. If the Intel HD 4000 Graphics card gets updates via Windows Updates then the Intel HD Graphics Card is also up to date.

Try the DELL ones, they may work well for the sleep issue.

I did install the Dell drivers but unfortunately, the issue still remains. If I were to re-install Windows on a separate hard disk along with all the drivers that were supplied with the 2 DVDs, would it solve the issue? I'm planning to buy an SSD and installing Windows on it, so that even if I can't put the computer in sleep mode, the boot up time of Windows on an SSD will be a lot quicker.
