    Hi all,

I just installed a GTX 680m card in my M17x R4, and everything seemed to go just fine. However, I noticed today that there is a thin gap between the palm rest assembly and the side I/O panels. Not much, but enough that I can see the light from the front "grille" LEDs through it. Is this normal, or did I somehow unclip the sides of the chassis from the palm rest assembly? I've applied pressure to the sides to try and get them to clip in, and while they will flex and close the gap, they won't clip or otherwise fasten into what seems like their proper place. If anybody with an M17x can give me some insight I'd appreciate it; this is really bugging me.

Post a pic. That way we can be accurate with our fit-it advice.

There should not be any light showing, be carefully, don't press down on the palm rest since you see light coming through. The are small clips that can be on top of the female slot and you could easily break those male clips. Pull it apart and reseat.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Here's a shot of the issue on the left side of the machine; sorry for the terrible quality, I don't have the greatest camera to work with:

I should also note that I never had the palm rest assembly off or apart. When upgrading to the 680m, I simply followed the procedure for replacing the graphics card assembly, so I don't know how I could have managed to dislodge the sides. Will fixing this require removing the palm rest, or is there a simpler solution?

Ok, i see what you are talking about. That is fairly normal as my casing is about 1mm off the panel as well, your seems to be a slight bit more, but nothing is perfect.

Check the screw holes on the underside that anchor the palmrest down. There should be six of them. Add in the small plastic tabs that are supposed to align the palmrest with the notebook frame and there the palmrest cables that are supposed to sit in a small groove which keeps them flat. If they slipped out of the groove for whatever reason, they could be putting upwards pressure on the palmrest which could cause it to misalign slightly.
