Which reseller would be the better option?

From what I hear, there are more cases concerning customer service satisfaction with Xotic PC but less customization options with Powernotebooks.

If you wait for a promotion it may be cheaper to get it though Dell. With the financing and the discount I get through my company my M17xR4 was almost 25% off.

That does sound tempting upfront but knowing Dell's customer service (1 star on Resellerratings.com), I doubt it would benefit me in the long run and that is why I'm deciding between these two reputable resellers. At least through resellers, there is a certain quality check which reduces the chance of me receiving a DOA unlike Dell.

The resellers don't actually build the machines. It's still ordered through Dell. But I get your point. Customer service is definitely better with a reseller but you are also paying for it.

While I haven't had any issue with my laptop (yet), so I don't really know how bad the Dell service can be but judging from the AW reps that hangs around here, I can say they are fairly helpful. If you can get a deal on Dell website, I think you should go ahead and order from them. So when you experience any issue, you know there are actual AW reps in this forum to complain ;).

I've ordered from both XoticPC and PNB. You couldn't go wrong either way!

Not sure what you think you will get from a reseller. They are the same machines and the warranty is still serviced by Dell. You will probably just end up paying more for less.

Some of us aren't at the luxury of ordering from Dell USA when we're not from there.

That is a valid point, I just assumed the OP was from the USA. For other countries the resellers are probably a lot cheaper and often the only way to get certain configs.

As well recommended and highly regarded xoticpc is, I have yet to see a bad review of power notebooks EVER. Lately xoticpc has been getting some negative reviews.

You get better customer service and perks, if you must, from resellers. But I am most likely going to order from Dell, I just need to find a way to deal with their customer service if I get a DOA which is more common than you think.

Yeah it is really more common then it should be. One would think that their luxury/high end brand would be a bit more...reliable. To be honest that's why I won't ever buy an Alienware. Their build quality is great, and for what I want the price isn't overly expensive. Also, oh god the backlighting is great.

I've been happy with Dell. I definitely get the run around with customer service reps, but I was able to switch my insurance for free from the US to Japan when I moved and still have english speaking reps so that was nice.

When I was looking to buy a notebook, I looked into buying from Dell USA, but they didn't offer global warranty on the Alienware's, so I ended up ordering from Dell Japan so I could have the warranty. I think the price was about the same. I was able to get an English keyboard, and the OS wasn't a problem since I was going to reinstall the OS on my new SSD anyway.

Long story short; your warranty will be covered in Japan?, and if so how do you pull that off?
