    Hi there,

I had a Dell XPS M1730 (which had a 1920x1200 screen resolution) and it broke so often that I got just upgraded to an M17x R2. It just arrived but the screen res is only 1440x900!!! AND if you go onto the Dell website the R2 can ONLY be configured with 1440x900??? ??? Where is my high res screen??? Should I call dell and "demand" a high res screen? Even though you cannot get it through the Dell website? I am really confused!

    HELP!

I would get on to Dell asap & inform them your not satisfied with the lower spec screen. The 1920x1200 is just probably out of stock, thats why its not being advertised.I have seen this before on the UK site and nothing said then next time i checked screen was back available.I would dog them over this . ;)

Max res on R2 is 1900x1080 with the 1080p screen and 1920x1200 with the 1200p screen.

Redacted: Apparently Dell removed the 1080p screen (or I'm hallucinating and it was never there) and there's just the 900p and 1200p. You apparently have the 900p. As the SAUCE says, definitely get on the phone with Dell and tell them you are unhappy with the 900p screen they gave you (if it is a lower res than your XPS was they should have to give you equal or better).

There are two options for screens on the M17x R2: the 1440x900 WXGA+ and the 1920x1200 WUXGA RGB LED. If you had the high-res screen on your XPS M1730, then they should replace it with a like screen, which would be the RGB LED. And the option for the RGB LED screen is still available when customizing a R2 on Dell's site:

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

EDIT: Just saw that you are in London, so it might be out of stock on Dell UK, but it is still in stock on the US Dell site. Sorry.

There is no option for a 1080p screen on the R2. The options are 1440x900 and 1920x1200.

Yeah I caught that right after I hit submit, so I edited right after :D Could've sworn there was a 1080p at some point, but that was probably just me looking at the R3 at some point.

Hmm we seem to be getting a lot of cases where Dell seems to be disappointing.

Zchay...they gave you a R2 because they have no other choice. They must fullfill their warranty contract on the other hand.

But the clause they must obey is.. a system of similar spec and performance or better. Nothing inferior or compromised without explicit consent of you the customer.

The cannot downgrade major features like your screen. What you owned before is a premium panel. I personally was upgraded from an Studio XPS model to a R2 merely because my existing processor was nowhere available in the XPS line at that time. And no RGBLED also. Without me prompting they gave me the choice of configuring R2.

If and when they send you a replacement part for the Screen ...ensure you check the part no. 100% before stripping down your existing screen. Ensure it belongs to the latest revision or manufacturing date.. It should not be older than max 1 year for screens.

Dell is in a hot soup in my case currently because they fitted a 2008 manufactured CCFL screen when infact they were suppose to send a RGBLED screen to rectify dead pixel defect.

A word on Deal pixels. If you can see dead pixels on a 1900*1200 screen it means its a cluster dead of pixels rather than a single dead pixel. In premium panels, dell replaces them. Their policy on dead pixel is clearly stated on a hidden web page which was updated in 2008. It only viewable if you look for it through google. It is never easy to navigate to that page through Dell's website.

Manufacturers like to have these. They don't WANT them to be found.
