if that doesnt work, and you are just using wireless then

I always go to control panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing>change adapter settings, and right click and disable the Nvidia nForce networking controller. And make sure your wireless is enabled and restart the computer. It will work.

Then revert if you want Ethernet connection

Well for me i had Local area connection and had the disable option.

what you mean with tweak of wifi? you cant connect to wifi? let me help you with this too.

you dont have to uninstall or disable nvidia ethernet controller. just go to device manager-> select the nvidia ethernet controller-> then properties ->then advanced-> then set device sleep on disconnect as disabled. thats all.

Well did some gaming last night on the M17x.
Ran Batman Arkham Asylum, Grid and BF2. All maxed out and have no issues at all. Running the vid drivers from the dell site.
No stuttering in any of the games.
No issues with general use either. V Happy. Booting a good bit quicker then Vista also

you run batman at very high ? you know what the problem is? most games with dell driver run with single gpu. so they dont take advantage of sli but one single GTX280 1GB is strong enough for most of them. but at least for the time being when sli is enabled through sli update 3 then stuttering appears and fps drops randomly.

Please try sli update 2 with dell driver (it adds sli support for batman asylum dx9) and report back.

Going to try these tonight, don't have blu-ray so that won't be an issue for me - could be a problem with HDCP and one reason I don't by into BD

Did you have any issues with installation and the INF files? Noticed in the archive there's no extra folder for copying an Hybrid-SLI compatible version from, so maybe this nonsense has been solved?

I concur, the only issue the nVidia driver causes i.e. total loss of WiFi, is caused by this option. The other WiFi issue, speed dropping to 11mbit is the latest M17x driver and is fixed by using the Dell 1510 driver from another of their laptops (link in other posts) and forcing them to install. I just wish Dell would hurry up and produce an M17x compatible installer.

    I second that.

SLI in this machine is pretty much broken. almost all games i have tried that runs in SLI(you notice both GPUs getting hot) have frame rate drops every now and then and stuttering issues.

It will work as long as you copy the inf file from laptopvideo2go into the folder.

I just reinstalled the dell driver cos i wanted to watch hellboy 2 on blu ray. I'd love to know if there is any way to use power dvd with any other driver?

I dunno I still had problems with wifi when I set device sleep on disconnect as disabled.

I had to go a step further and disable the controller. Whatever.. As long as my wifi works

I see you want my birthday wish from next year too. ;)
I'm fairly certain I tried all suggestions on this site for WiFi issues; including yours for WiFi.
Where I stand now is the highest speed is only 58mbps; but it stays stable around there. When I had issues at least it would jump to "n" speeds above 100 but then bounce around and down to 5 or so. Pretty much the issue a lot of people have seen. So I'm happy WiFi is working; but I really want the "n" speeds of 100+. Any ideas how to get there?
    Thanks!

Manually installing the v.5.60.18.8 Dell Wireless 1510 drivers via device manager should get you back up to speed again.

Solved, either a problem with my Microsoft keyboard or the IntelliType software that Window's Update installed.

Using a different USB keyboard and have uninstalled the IntelliType software and everything is fine again.

Hi. I loaded that driver just now; at the moment my speed is a solid 54.0mbps.
I also noticed this driver changed the Radio Streams from 2x2 to 1x1 now.....I'm not sure what that means...but seems like I'm losing something.... (Am I?)
I was downstairs and now I'm next to my Linksys router...no change. So location is not the issue. Solid 54.
Any other ideas or setting to check/change? I'm stuck in the mud. ;)
    Thanks!
    Jimmer
P.S.: What is that other device; Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Controller? Can that be part of this speed issue?

Anyone run into this issue? Once this goes away I can purge the stink of Vista from my baby forever:

During bootup: at the point where the Alienrespawn option to hit f10 used to be in the bootup sequece under Vista, every second time I boot up it freezes at that screen and all that can be seen is a flashing underline like it is waiting for a command. While the flashing line is onscreen, nothing is click-able except the power button, and when the power button is pushed, the machine powers down. Next time booting up, it will boot to the hard drive fine and dandy. It happens like clockwork every time. I checked the boot sequence in the bios, and it is fine. Now here is the interesting part: when I hit f12 to bring up the boot menu at the alienhead screen - the diagnostics are still there and at the top of the list. I suspect thats why it freezes at the respawn screen, it is still looking for the links to the respawn. So, has anyone else had this happen? Anyone know how to purge this evil from the boot sequence? Anyone know how to free the respawn partition from within windows, disk mangement won't allow me to do anything to it either. Any ideas are appreciated, and thanks all!

You'll have to grab a partition editor/utility to remove the partition. Not sure on any freeware options. Try a Google Search. Acronis Disk Director is a good one however it is not freeware.

Since you did a clean install, it most likely wont work - but you may want to try it anyway. I have no idea since I have not tried it but I do recall someone posting it didn't work with a clean install:

    LINK

I would just dump the partition - Respawn is basically pointless since the Respawn data is Vista ;)

You can use "diskpart" from an elevated command prompt to remove OEM partitions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=137443

If you want you can then use the expand option in Disk Manger to incorporate the spare space into your current volume.

Where are you seeing "Radio Streams" as I cannot see that in the driver settings of my install?

I think it's a setting to do with antenna use and could well be an issue - "N" requires at least 3 antennas for full speed (MIMO) but can function on less but at reduced rates.

The extra device is not the issue - that's for missing function in Win7 that allows you to create a virtual access point on your system. Just ignore it.

Running the 187.66 but nearly didn't as the install left me with a black screen when it finished - used RDP to check the system and it was ok, it didn't want a reboot, so I hit Fn-F7 and it switched to SLI and the screen came back. Pressed it again and it stepped down to the 9400 with the screen still work.

    Weird

Everything still seems to be ok even after several reboots so Hybrid-SLI is not broken by this release.

Only had a short while to test a game, tried Torchlight and everything looked fine. Will stick with it for the time being.

Well futher to my previous posts I have finally figured out how to use blu ray with 187.66.

I added one of the .inf files from the official dell driver and it worked. It took me freakin ages but now I have the great performance of 187.66 + blu ray + hybrid sli, I am super happy.

If anyone is interested I can upload the drivers with all the changes I made to simplify the process, as far as I know this is the only non stock driver anywhere that supports blu ray :D.

Ok I'm off to play some games!

If you want the 187.66 driver to install, just use the INF and .CAT from the 186.82 driver. All that you need to do is change the 186.82 INF DriverVer line to match the 187.66 DriverVer line:

    Code:
    DriverVer   = 10/03/2009, 8.16.11.8766
Make the change to the 186.82 INF and then copy the 186.82 INF as well as the nv_whql.CAT file from the 186.82 directory and paste them into the 187.66 directory. Also remove the nvfm INF and nvfm.CAT files from the 187.66 directory - you do not need them.

    ------

I know that may sound confusing to some, but I'll go one step further and attach the edited INF + .CAT file.

Just copy and paste and the remove the nvfm INF and nvfm.CAT files from the 187.66 directory - you do not need them.

Not sure if this is the same change wordtothawise made so I'm interested to see what process he used.

187.66 supports BluRay and HybridSLI when using the INF from 186.82. If you want to use the 186.12, 186.64 or 186.91 INF instead, then you can make the change yourself ;)

Dont ask about benchmarks, I haven't bothered to run any with 187.66. Still need to test HybridSLI functionality completely and game compatibility which I wont be able to get to for a day or so. If anyone else gets around to it (benchmarking), please post in the benchmark thread and mention you are on 187.66.

    Thanks.

Weird, I simply used the modded INF from the laptopvideo2go site and apart from the installation WHQL warning and the screen being blank after the installer finished (fixed by hitting Fn+F7, it didn't seem to need a reboot), everything seems fine with Hybrid-SLI - I don't have Blu-Ray so cannot comment on that.

Do you think I should reinstall?

I'm still thinking that the unfixable stuttering issues in Win7 are only happening on C2D systems and not quad-core systems.

A poll might help figure out the issue, but batboy might close the thread due to like 5 threads on M17x + Win7

I'm running C2D (T9600) + Windows 7 Ultimate 64 with no noticable stuttering in Dragon Age, L4D, TF2 so far with SLI active. Clean install on Win7, have hybrid and the 9400M disabled and using the Dell release drivers (186.64) with SLI update 3.

Just ran TF2 with everything maxed, sat in an empty server in a single large room with net_graph running, didn't notice any pauses or drops in FPS. Ran around and also didn't notice any.

Had Everest running and both GPUs were around the same temp so definitely both being use.

Hi Batboy, I actually used the .inf from the 186.64, which is the official dell driver, its the only one that would install without modifying the .inf for windows 7. The nvidia 186.82 ones installed when I used vista but not win7.

I'll upload the driver when I get home, but I can say batman arkham asylum had much improved performance, the benchmark was 25min, 44ave, 77max @ 1920 x 1200 no AA max everything including physx. Thats almost a 100% improvement on my previous driver. I did also install the sli 3 update so that may have helped.

That might be the problem. I wouldn't trust a new version of Windows without a clean install.
Then again, it may not be and you'd just need to install the right combination of drivers or it's something else completely.

Yep clean install of Win 7 is ALMOST required. In any case I always format my hard drives before installing a new version of Windows.

After installing Windows 7, some my games don't work properly anymore.... The fps is fine for about 2 seconds, stops for a fraction of a second, then works again.... I've tried all kinds of drivers, but none seem to fix anything...

It's not every game, though - just Crysis, Warhead, and RE5 - my other games seem to work with little issues, like FO3, L4D2 demo, Source games - but it could just be because these games are much less graphically-demanding

I looked at Batboy's posts about stopping "intermittent stuttering" but those didn't do anything for me. Do you think I need to try again with a clean install?

Basically the only thing keeping me from this is my iTunes - it takes FOREVER to try to recompile my library of 6000+ songs, so upgrading was a much simpler option.. does anyone who uses itunes know of a way to do a clean install and restore my old itunes library??

Edit - Nevermind, a couple of reboots later (trying to install something but it wasn't working) and I guess Batboy's solutions really did help! Thanks Batboy, now my stuff all works fine - I was worried about taking all that time to reinstall all my stuff with a clean install
