I have the m17x r2 and am having a problem. I'd like to install an ssd into the hdd1 bay, but cannot figure out how to fit it because the adapter is pointed vertically rather than like the port in hdd0 where I can slide the hdd directly into it horizontally. Can somebody look at the picture and tell me what I need.

I'm new to computers so sorry if this is an easily answered question but none of my peers with computer knowledge were of any help.

Pic one is what in confused about
Pic two is the bay I have my hdd plugged into now
And pic 3 is my ssd sitting next to the port and why I'm confused as to how to connect it.

You need to get the secondary drive caddy and interposer. They are available from Dell (if you ask real nicely, you can get them to give it to you no charge). You are using the drive caddy for the primary drive, yes?

My 17x came with both the caddy and the interposer... The interposer was "hidden" underneath the caddy in a rubber sheath.

Yup. You should have gotten thems with the notebook. But in case you didn't, you can get them from Dell/AW.

Yeah, I have the R3 and both slots use those. It's a little L shaped thing you attach to the hdd. Mine were housed in a little rubber square attached to the mounting brackets for the HDD, if yours didn't come with the mounting bracket for the secondary spot then you'll likely need to order those as others have suggested.
