    Hi,

Since the 5870's Xfire have now been released, I need to make the decision whether to get it now or wait for the R3.

How likely will the R3 be announced next month and will it be a major upgrade?

    Cheers.

R3 will be released early next year with the new proc release. If you can wait for it then go ahead but by then there will be something else new on the horizon that you may want and your waiting time will be a never ending cycle.

You should forget about going Alienware at this size if you are looking for longer battery life. ;)

lol I know its a performance PC and its going to be my first laptop (plan to phase out desktop, if you work in IT it gets seriously boring sitting behind a chair and last thing I want to do on my home PC)

I know it wont give me 10 hours but 2-3 hours on Integrated would be awesome.

Get an R2 system now. It works very well and it will serve your needs for gaming and working for at least 2 or 3 years. If you buy a R2 with an i7 CPU you will also be able to upgrade your CPU later(unless you buy the best of the best right know of course) on as well as the graphic card/cards if needed in the future. My specs will allow me to use 99 percent of the software/games on the market and that is without having crossfire :) Try to imagine what kind of powerful mobile machine you will have with 5870 crossfire and an i7 920 XM CPU I mean that would be the most evil machine for crushing complicated mathematical tasks as well as demanding 3D tasks(more linear algebra Math) :D

Yeah.. Miko I waited 6 months for 5870 xfire rather than give in and buy an ASUS g73.. The wait was horrible I missed out on 4 months of gaming before I finally caved in and bought a m11x and justified the expenditure of needing it for school. So lets hope after today that it was worth the wait.

I think the m11x may be the kind of laptop I need for long battery times so I may get that later and keep the m17x as hardcore laptop :)

That m11x is awesome though dual purpose so you should be ok!
