As an upcoming owner of an M17x R3 and an ex-owner of the M15x R2 and M11x R1 , I was curious if the M17x line has ever had any hinge issues or similar quality problems? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

There's no such thing as an M15x R2. As for the hinges, no, the M17x's have never had that problem. But seeing how the R3 is a completely new design made of plastic/rubber, it remains to be seen how well it holds up. The M17x-R1 and R2 were built on an aluminum frame and are super sturdy.

Man the M17x-R1 and M17x-R2 are built like tanks, solid solid solid. Did a complete tear down today on my system installing upgrades and the hinges are quite sturdy. Don't know about the R3 though.

I was referring to the M15x R2 as the Dell-ienware M15x , to keep people from mixing it up with the original m15x.

You know the old (and very wise) adage: You get what you pay for. The R3 is priced cheap (in the US anyway) for a reason.

No hinge problem in the m17x R1 and R2(only for the m11x).
IMO if the hinges were the only problem I would have with a laptop I'd be happy(never saw a pair from a decent seller above 15$).
Hopefully your new system will make you happy.
    Cheers

Totally agree,it would take the bullet but it won't function as good as before the shot. :p :D
If you're reffering to rubber bullets then yes,go ahead!
And if tou ever have any problem with the R3 then don't worry that's why warrenty is for.
