Hey guys! I've had my m17x for the past 3 years. The machine has been overheating a lot lately. Even when it's just idle. I haven't been gaming on the system for a while now. I also tend to task my system with a lot of programs open at once, but i can't seem to do that anymore no thanks to the over heating.

I used the HWinfo software to keep track of the temperature and got high numbers. I think the cause of the problem is the Nvidia MCP, I'm not sure what that is. I need your help guys.

    system config:
    M17x R1: Intel core 2 quad Q9000 2.00GHZ
    RAM : 4GB
    HDD: 320gb
    260m and 9400 in SLI

I've attached a picture the temperature sensor readings...

    Thanks katalin_2003.

hmmm...going through the threads, i'm seeing similar problems.

I cleaned the system not long ago. I'll try disabling the 9400 and get back to you. As per the thermal pads, I think i'll take the system for repair. I don't know if i can do that right now though. I take a class which requires the heavy use of maya.

After disabling the integrated card, the Nvidia MCP still reads pretty high figures.

In this case you have to replace that thermal pad I was referring to in the other threads.
Another solution would be to put thermal paste on the die then a thin copper shim, thermal paste again and the heatsink on top.

Thanks for your help Finally got the system running like a champ. All that's left is to get rid of it. I think I'm finally done with windows and systems that run it.
