This is the first time i post here but i feel very comfortable with this forums knowledge base versus anywhere else. My problem is as follows.... I recently purchased an m17x r2 with an i5 cpu and decided to go ahead and upgrade to an i7 820QM. I got all the necessary tools and made sure to read up on the compatability of this cpu on this system. For some reason after i installed the cpu i turn on the machine but the lcd does not turn on the caps lock led flashes while the other two remain lit. The keyboard and all the other leds light up including the alienware logo on the lcd. At first i thought it was one of the ribbon cables so i re-opened it ad checked and double checked every connection. I decided to keep checking everytime abd i must have opened the machine at least 8 times to double check everything is fine. I reinstalled the i5 to see if i had messed up something but with the i5 it booted up perfectly. I then thought that it might be the bios so i installed the latest a10 bios with the crisis usbstick. But nothing.... Im not really sure what the problem is. As soon as i install the cpu and try and turn it on it stays on a black screen and
nothing happens. (except the blinking leds) I also tried re-seating the rams in every whichway and also tried bootig with only one of them but nothing. I was
hoping someone had a similar issue or could lend me a hand. Thank you for your time. Ohhh and theres another topic on this forum but the error is quite different since icant even load up the bios(because off black screen) and the led error code is different

I would say the ribbon cables man, but you say you checked them couple of times. I remember that the LCD cable can be a PITA to put back and that gives some kind of led blinking error.
Might also be a faulty CPU.
I've got a Dell technician's manual for the R2 at home, i can check the led blinking statuses there.

Caps Lock flashing, Scroll & Num Lock on solid

The only time this has happened to me was when I failed to properly connect one of the two LCD connectors. You had to completely rip apart your laptop to replace the CPU, so you should double check all of your connections. Luckily you only need to pull the hinge cover, keyboard, and maybe the palmrest. Easy fix.

If you removed the RAM, re-seat it. The error code you described (caps flashing, NUM and SCROLL solid) is for memory. Be sure its seated correctly.

If this still doesn't clear the error, re-seat the display connector on the motherboard. Its a tough one and easy to mistake for being properly connected. Disconnect it, line it up, seat it and then look at from it an angle... you should be able to tell if its seated correctly.

If after doing the above and still having issues, remove the CPU and replace with the original. If no issues, start focusing your attention on the aftermarket CPU.

Thank you soo much for all your responses im going to try to install ram from my other m17x r2 to see if it a ram issue(maybe compatibility issue?) im just really hoping its not a cpu issue. Im going to try all avenues and triple check the lcd cables
