My m17x r2 with 5870m x2 freezes when I start the overclocking program like msi after burner and powerstrip. Also, when I use atitools to overclock the program works but I can't slide the bars to increase the memory and core clock speeds. What do I need to do to overclock the gpu? I am using dell official drivers is this the reason why I can't overclock it? The reason why I am using this instead of 11.6 because I am playing older games and the new drivers don't work good with them.

    or otherwise:

open regedit>ctrl+F (this will open the search window)>search for "EnableUlps", without quotes and be aware, is UL and not UI. The value must be set to "0". There are variouse instances of this values through the registry. Change all of them to "0".

    Reboot

    done

Be carefull with registry anyway. Do it only if you know how to.
