I doubt it unless you purchased the buy back program, if they offer it. Best bet is to sell the R2, or part it out and use that money towards the new purchase. Chances are even if Dell did do it, they would pay you far less then you could get parting the system, or selling it whole on ebay or here at the marketplace.

That's right, they'll just offer you a few hundred $$. Not worth it.

It's still a great/upgradeable system. And you have a better screen than any of the new models.

You know Dell/AW will let you extend the warranty? Up to 5 years after the date of purchase I believe. Always worth checking into and always worth getting the max. It may be expensive, but it'll pay for itself in peace of mind. When did you buy yours?

What is the difference between the R2's screen and the R3/R4's screen? Sorry for my ignorance!

If I have the 285m SLI GPUs on my R2, can I upgrade to the AMD 7970s?

Is this super hard to do? I'm a newbie, so if it's in the least bit difficult, I don't think I would want to try.

The R2 has an RGBLED 1900x1200 (16:10) screen while the R3's is a 1920x1080 (or 1600x900) (16:9) WLED screen. I personally haven't seen an R2's RGBLED screen in person but people swear at how superior it is compared to the R3's WLED screen. YMMV.

Might not wanna do it then. I've done my lappies several times for cleaning and it is easy. But that's coming form someone who's done it several times. The first time I took my M17x R1 apart was aggravating as CRAP. But, I actually wrote a tutorial (as I'm sure others have). You can do it if you have a little technical ability. Look HERE

Yes. The R2 screen did look pretty stinking good. But you can change your color settings and get the R3 and M18 screens to look pretty good too. Look HERE

Yeah, I think if you haven't seen the screen on the R2, then you probably won't know what you are missing. I haven't seen the screens on the R3 or R4 but I'm certain they're still better then most of what is available out there. Don't get me wrong, I love my R2 screen, but unless you have a comparison I doubt you'll know what you're missing.

Wait on the 7970m's. A few members on here are going to try using them in their M17x r2's. Might as well wait for them to confirm whether it works or not. If it doesn't you can always get the 6970m or 6990m in crossfire. Be a great upgrade from your current setup.

Here's a link if you want to learn how. I opened my laptop the day I got it. It's not hard but, just be careful with the ribbon connectors. Once you've done it a few times it's very easy. Fun if I may say so.

I may be totaly wrong here but I think the people who have put the 100w cards is sli/crossfire are having problems as the 240w psu can give enough power and keeps tripping. Im not sure if this is limited to those with extreme prossesors or what but there is a thread were people have been splicing togeather 2 240w psu to get it to work. so i imagian that the 7970m will have the same problem as its a 100w card to.
