I wonder if any of you R2 users are using the laptop for web browsing now
Right now my Firefox (latest version) is using 1.4 ram or so when I'm browsing.... mind you that I like to keep more than 40 tabs opened,

Since I haven't been into the laptop/computer/upgrades scene for a long time, I would like to know what should I upgrade to work with more than 40 tabs opened at the time,
I'm thinking it's ram, or is CPU power, or just hdd problem ? If so, what are your recommendations?

    Thanks

Yeah, that sounds about right. I don't use tabs (I hate tabbing with a vengeance) so I use separate windows instead of separate tabs. But with 6 windows open Firefox is using 220MB of RAM as reported by the Task Manager. So in theory, if y'all were to multiply that number by 7, 42 open Firefox windows should take up 1.5GB of RAM. This is just an estimate so I have no idea if it will be the same as y'all's Firefox. But your Firefox RAM usage does seem accurate.

RAM first. Then maybe get an SSD. Only upgrade the CPU if it's really necessary. The highest I believe the R3 can handle is i7-2840QM (not sure if the i7-2920Xm is compatible). The CPU upgrade will be the most expensive ergo I've listed it last. There is a forum here [ http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/] where you can get some good advice on which brands of RAM and SSDs will work best. Personally, I was recommended the Corsair Vengeance RAM. I got it on sale 2x4GB for $78. Search around the forum and see what others are recommending and which brands other users are finding to be on sale. There's no reason to go out and pay retail for aftermarket upgrades anymore.

And just a thought, the R2 does support 16GB of ram (even if "officially" it only states support for 8GB of ram). So if you are looking to upgrade your memory, I'd definitely recommend going to 16GB since ram prices are fairly cheap right now.

    Thanks guys,

    I don't have an R3, I have an R2 right now
so, If I just upgrade my RAM to 16gig, I can virtually keep all taps open without any problems right ?
now the Issue is 8gig or 16gig, which I don't really know which one is the max

and, and SSD, I've read years ago (when r2 was in the hot, but now there are r3 and r4) that the r2 had problems with SSD, now what is the case? are the newer SSD able to function correctly without any problems or bugs with the R2 ? if so, what are you suggestions for an good SSD ?

    Thanks

Ps. i7-920xm are still expensive.... 500usd? and an used m17r2 is almost 700 if i read right elsewhere hmm?

The max taken according to our records is 8GBto keep stability.

SSD's would work just fine in your m17x R2.

I've been running 16gb for about 6 months now with 0 stability problems. You could buy two 8gb sticks and if you encounter any issues with 16 you can back it off to 8gb. Up to you of course just my experience. Good luck!

Also I'm running a crucial m4 ssd drive and it's been phenomal!

I've been running 16 GB for 8+ months, no issues. I believe you need a quad core i7 to get the 16 GB.

16 Gb problem free also here. I'm not sure that OP's 720qm can handle more than 8 Gb...

I tested my Sager NP8690 (Clevo W860CU) with 16 GB RAM, no problems with a i7-720QM.
