I received my m17x-r3 today, I know there are a few first impression thread already, but i did not see one with the 6870 and non-3D. I had a few pms to ask me to provide some info to others. Ill try to do what I can. I am a noob so I don't know how much I can be.
specs:
2630
ati 6870
320gb HDD
Ultimate N wireless card
60Hz screen (2nd upgrade)
I got a lot of pms about the graphics cards.
My computer has two graphics card under device manager:
AMD Radeon HD 6870M
Mobile intel(R) HD Graphics
Not sure what else to say, other people covered other topics so if you guys have additional questions, Ill do my best to answer them.
=)
-
what kind of battery life is it reporting under the 6870 and the integrated.
-
so this confirmed that non 3d r3s got optimus?
-
Im trying to copy and paste my screen shot of my graphics card for "proof" but it is not working.... -
Not really.
AMD cards do not support Nvidia technology (Optimus).
They do have their own version of hybrid graphics, but it only works with AMD cpus.
and @OP - Optimus requires no physical switching. profiles handle the switch for you. It is an Nvidia specific feature.
edit; wow, they're still calling it an ati 6870? -
Kunekaden: wow, they're still calling it an ati 6870?[/QUOTE]
Sorry for the confusion:
The device manager says this: AMD Radeon HD 6870M not Ati. -
I actually checked the website right after posting that. Dell is still calling it ATI aswell. It's no big deal anyway, everyone knows what is meant.
-
Any chance you can bench it? 3d06? I want to compare it against 460m....thanks.
-
Google 3D mark 06 there's a free download of the base test everyone uses to compare results. Takes a few minutes to run and then post the screenshot of your score!
-
Sure, I downloaded 3D mark 06 and vantage, Ill post scores as soon as i can.
-
can you please check if you can switch between the AMD/ ATI 6870 and the intel HD3000? there is a dedicated function key for it. F7 i think.....
One way to check if the intel integrated card is working is if the battery runtime changes. -
^^^ He already tried.
-
i see. Could use one of the monitoring tools to see if the GPU temperatures drop to make sure it doesnt work.
Would be a damn shame if the INTEL graphics is wasted since it seems like a great tool for coding videos. -
or just try disabling amd card. see what happens. If it screws things up. boot into safe mode and re-enable
