    Im looking to upgrade my M17x r3 ram from 8GB to 12 or 16. Found a store that is selling Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 4gb ram sticks by 1 stick or x 2 x 3 x 4 kits.

At the moment i got the ram that the notebook had in the store 4 x 2gb DDR-3 and it should be 1333Mhz

There is an option for a single 8gb Corsair Vengeance1600mhz stick but thats 60 euro. 2x 8gb is 118 euro

One stick of Corsair Vengeance 4gb is 22 euro
    2x 4gb is 41 eur
    3x 4gb is 60 eur
    4x 4gb is 89 eur

    Worth the upgrade ?

At the moment doing a lot of work with Solidworks and Ansys and well ram usage is at some point near 7gb of 8gb.

From a cost-effective stand point, probably not worth it. You won't notice any difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz. I sure didn't when I upgraded.
Then again Corsair does make very good RAM modules so if you're upgrading from the stock RAM from Dell, the Corsair RAM will be more reliable so it may be worth it in that sense. However Corsair does have 1333MHz RAM if you're looking to spend less.

Well the store that is selling the rams has only 1600mhz and they say that it comes with a 5 year warranty ?

Well if i had 2x 4gb in the dell i would just get 2 extra 4gb and I would be set but as i got 4x 2gb will have to sell them anyway.

I'm not sure if the warranty is different in Europe but I got two 2 x 4GB kits and they have lifetime warranty from Corsair.

I'm no expert on this but I've heard mixing different makes of RAM isn't a good idea. Someone more informed in this area will hopefully chime in.

LOL 5 year might be a lifetime in EU :D

Just looked over what my system has. It has Nanya DDR-3 4x 2gb 1333mhz sticks.

Well im not cone mix up the ram as it should be the same idea as on a desktop with a dual slot system. Same stick make the system use them better.

Might buy the 118 euro 2x 8gb corsair kit so ill have the option to upgrade more if i need to. :)

mixing ram isn't an issue as long as they can run at the same voltage.

The timings and ram speed will clock down to the lowest common denominator so its best to make sure that the new sticks run at the same speed and timings as the existing ram

i mixed and matched the stock hyundai ram with gskills in my laptop and everything is solid as a rock

Upgrading beyond 8gb for most users is a waste of money. Most games never go past 4gb. 8gb is fine. Virtual machines, video editing, CAD, and other productivity stuff may benifit. If you don't do any of that, save the money for your next laptop, or get an SSD if you don't have one (SSDs are the best upgrade you can buy).
