    Hello,
I received the m17x I purchased from the Dell outlet yesterday. After booting it up and attempting to open the nVidia Control Panel, I got a BSOD saying Driver State Power Failure. I rebooted and got the same BSOD after attempting to open the Control Panel again. I then uninstalled the video driver and reinstalled and the Control Panel opens fine now, however I am still getting the same BSOD at random times. I called Dell and after 2 hours of random testing and updating the bios to an A09 modded bios, I am still having problems. A tech is supposed to be coming out to replace the motherboard and speakers due to the computer having no sound but he is also bringing another video card. Should replacing the motherboard and video card resolve this problem? I have read quite a bit of people having this problem but not resolving it outside of getting an upgraded card (GTX 560/580 or ATI equivalent).

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Yes, I tried everything there except updating the bios before I spoke with Dell... The representative updated the bios while I was on the phone with him.

I had that issue as well when i got my machine back from the dell depot. I think i fixed it by installing all 80 or so windows updates and updating to the newest graphics card driver. Hope this helps :)

the 295 driver found here works fine for me. I have heard other people have had issues with skype though so if you use skype you should use older drivers.

Verde 295.51 Driver with skype problems.

Verde 290.53 Driver: older but perfectly stable drivers.

Hope this all helps you out. :)

Thanks for the links. If switching everything out doesn't resolve the problem I'll definitely give those drivers a try and post back with the results.

After having to call Dell back 2 more times I ended up having to send the laptop in. They replaced the motherboard so I'm not having the blue screens anymore. I am, however, having a problem (when integrated graphics are enabled) where once the computer is on a few minutes, anything that I boot up that is set to use the dedicated card will freeze and I have to restart the computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

My M17x R3 (580M) is about two months old and it come from Dell with the A09 BIOS and it was blue screening often showing the same error Driver State Error. Every blue screen has been with that error.

When I got it (late 12/2011) I called Dell and they installed the A08 BIOS and it was stable until this week. I did update to the latest Nvidia drivers. I will roll back and try the old Nvidia drivers because I did updated to the 295.73 version. Before upgrading I was running the 290.53 version.

I don't want to blame Dell at this point (maybe it's Nvidia's problem or something else), but I am really disappointed with all the blue screens with this machine. I have spent many hours reading the boards trying to find a solution because Dell support is questionable.

They really need to allow you to disable the integrated graphics card. I don't care about battery life and that seems to cause unnecessary problems too.

Thanks for posting the recommendations and helping out.

you can disable the igpu by using the A08 modded bios. Like I said before though, make sure you have all your windows updates installed and it should fix your issue. ;)
