So i installed a new GPU( nvidia 780m ) and it works great! but........(theres always a but isnt there) i cannot get the audio to work.
i deleted all nvidia and IDT drivers and turned off the HD audio in the a12 bios then installed the new card.
Heres where i came into the problem.
i turned back on the HD audio in the bios, then went to install the IDT audio driver and it gives me this error.

"The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The install will be aborted"

i have tried a few different IDT drivers and even a "realtek idt driver" nothing has worked. all the same errors.
i am at a loss now. im hoping somone can help! Thanks

Does your integrated audio work at all? There are known issues with integrated audio not working with the 780m in a m17x r3. But some people found a work around in the link below.

    Integrated sound card working...

I don't think you were supposed to uninstall IDT drivers but just disable it before you swap cards. Re-enable it after cards are swapped. If you haven't done it yet, I'll advise you to swap back to your old card and see if IDT drivers will install. Then it's just a matter of disabling it in Bios and perhaps in windows as well before cards are swapped back again. Then Re-enable it.

    The post does say

After a bit of troubleshooting it seems there is an easy fix for that. I just booted into Windows safe mode F8. Uninstalled the NVidia driver using https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...er-ddu-v7-7-1/
Rebooted into Windows 7. Reinstalled IDT driver, reinstalled NVidia drivers.

So he was at least able to install the IDT drivers after the new card was installed. I'll still try putting the old card back in and trying but it doesn't seem right.

No need to put the old card back (unless it's a 120hz model). Just start it up without a dGPU at all and it will work fine on the intel. makes troubleshooting easier IMO ;)

Make sure you default the bios before doing this so it looks for the iGPU!

That makes troubleshooting a little more tricky :(.

Will the dell IDT driver install?

I think i may have really screwed up. I was messing with the bios setting and I changed the IGP setting from "disabled" to "enabled" (instead of auto) without a graphics driver installed. So now I have no video at all. No bios screen. No nothing. I turn it on and the lights come on. Nothing else happends. No beeps no nothing. I tried reseting the cmos by taking out the watch battery. It didn't do anything. Hopfully someone can help

Phew, when I made that mistake I had to blind flash it. Now that is a stressful process. Multiple restarts, fans going full blast, and around 30 beeps at one point! With a 120hz model you can't touch any of the display settings without risking a brick !

for future reference you should just have to pull the cmos and hold the power button for 30 seconds. That should clear the cmos. Sometimes no holding the power button to purge all the power out of the system will cause the bios to retain its settings for some reason.

This is what I did once and it didn't work. what I did after was u took the battery AND the gpu out, held the FN key and turned the power. It did a little start. Then restarted. Gave me some beeps then turned off. Put the gpu and batt back in and it worked. I'm not even exactly sure what I did but I'm just glad it came back on.

So after all that. I have good news and bad news

I put the old gpu back in (460m) installed the IDT drivers off the Dell website. Put the new 780m back in. Installed the modded drivers and everything works!........almost.
I have sound and my pc is recognizing that I have a 780m installed BUT if I try to start a game (cs:go or diablo 3 for example) pc crashes. And it also freezes if I click the volume icon in the bottom right tray.

Okay well at the risk of sounding dumb, I fixed it.

The new card I had didn't come with a x bracket on it so I couldn't screw the heatsink into it. I figured as long as I didn't heat it up too much until I get a new one in the mail I'd be okay. Well I got impatient waiting for a new one so I pryed the x bracket off my old card. Put it on my new one. And now it runs flawlessly. Everything works. I find it kind of crazy that without the headsink screwed down that it would freeze when you press the volume button. But regardless it did fix my problem. Finally have my 780m running perfect.

Thanks again for all the help and advice from everyone.
