so this morning I played some Syndicate and my r3 just suddenly power off itself, i've been unable to power on it ever since. The machine has been solid for the past 1 year+ and i've regularly OC without any problems but come today, its just really a surprise to see it go out like this.

The following are the symptoms I've noticed.

1.) I've not played the laptop in a while (2 months or so), i left it in Intel Graphics most of the time but i've been using it for work more than gaming.
2.) The power supply is working fine, i can use it on other dell laptops (m11x)
3.) I can't power on the m17x with it's own battery, it's fully charged, i never remove it
4.) I notice that when i plug in the power supply, the blue led ring will go out, it seems power is completely cut upon connection to the laptop.

I've not done any bios or drivers update recently, it seems the motherboard might be out? i really don't want it to be so, but luckily i still have warranty, so i shouldn't have any problem claiming warranty right?

    thanks!

Honestly with problems like that I'd certainly call Dell once possible.
Just as a shot in the dark you might try removing the battery and seeing if it acts the same way when you plug in the power adapter.

^^ yes good advice. You can also reseat the cmos battery and see if that helps

    Could also be the mobo

already tried that + removing the cmos battery, left it for a few minutes, put back the cmos battery, connect power, battery still out. same, the machine just won't accept any power.

The mobo is probably dead. You mention the light on the adapter going out; this means there is a short circuit somewhere inside your laptop (tripping the self resetting thermal fuse in the adapter), most probably the mobo; but it might be a short circuit in another component too.
