    Does it really have 4?

Yes there are four. Two under the keyboard and RAM Cover and two under the back panel.

Yes. Also, do NOT buy ram directly from Dell when you're ordering it, just buy and fit it in there yourself later, will cost you a lot less!

ram slots 1,2 are easy to get to...just requires the back cover to come off. Ram slots 3,4 are under the keyboard so its a little more work to get to.

under keyboard is easy too. just few screws.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but: Is it better to chuck the stock ram (1333mhz) and just buy up brand new 1600mhz ram? Or should I just add more 1333 to my computer?

Depends one what you need. Extra ram or speed? Buying extra 1333Mhz ones will save you money. 1600Mhz x4 will cost significantly more.

    I have 4gb stock ram.

What I'm asking is if I should at to it and make it 8gb? Or should I just do a complete swap to 8gb 1600? Does it (going from 1333 to 1600) make a diff in playing games/doing everyday stuff?

for games, going from 4 to 8 gigs will not increase your frames per second at all

you put in 1600 ram, you gain tops 1%...maybe 2% if you're lucky in games.

So if you're getting 30fps, you are now getting 30.3 - 30.6 fps

from a cost perspective, stick to 1333 ram, but the hyperx sticks are sweet though lol...get them because you want them, and not because you expect a huge increase in performance, because you will be disappointed

Getting faster ram will however significantly increase your IGP speeds as the graphics memory is shared with the RAM. This is good if say you play CS on battery on the move.

Ok, so now that the thread has been solved..
    I'm just wondering;
Does DELL place the memory that they sell with their system on the R3 in the backer ram-slots, or in the slots under the keyboard?

People probably know where i'm going with this.. :D

Just some information here. My R3 came with 4 gigs of 1333 under the keyboard. I bought 8 Gigs of 1600 and installed it under the easy access panel. The system has been running very smooth with two different RAM speeds. Obviously, it's running at the lower of the two speeds (1333). Just thought I would let you know, you can buy the 1600 and keep your 1333. Swap out the 1333 later if you want the extra speed or keep it all and have extra RAM.

With 16 Gb of RAM, you can disable the windows virtual mem.
So you could expect more improvement. Is that true?

    Guys just brought M17x .

Need little help with understanding dell's ram setup.

Which slots do I need to use in order to get dual channel mode?

Because in my desktop I have to use slot 1&3 or 2&4 to get correct dual channel mode.

Just use the slots as they are paired. You have 2 pairs of slots.

I don't get BSODs at all.

@bigspin, for dual channel, just use the two slots in the back.
