    Ok, so here are the specs of the laptop that I am considering purchasing (m17x r3)

    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
    MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
    VIDEO CARD 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6970M
    HARD DRIVE 320GB 7,200RPM HDD
    LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    WIRELESS CARD Wireless 802.11 g/n
    INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    I want to upgrade the RAM to 8gb aftermarket because it will be cheaper. I also want to purchase a roughly 128gb SSD to install the OS/games on.

    Can you guys please give me suggestions about the what RAM(8gb) and SSD(around 128gb) I should purchase?

    Kingston Hyper x ram is pretty good and mostly what people get to upgrade there ram.

    As for ssd look at Intel/crucial/vertex 3 there are retty much the leading ones.
